CPS Community Protest Thursday Will Call For Chicago To Defund Police Department – Block Club Chicago

“We as a city are tired of being told we do not have enough money to support citizens,” organizers said on the protest’s event page. “That we don’t have enough money for nurses, counselors, mental health clinics, affordable housing [and] equitable transportation.” The city budgeted nearly $1.8 billion for CPD in 2020, according to Chicago’s budget overview.

The security surrounding the mayor and any other person should be gone first.

Excellent point! No elected officials should be allowed to use law enforcement for “protection” or have any armed security detail whatsoever as they are a threat to civilians.

Maybe the teachers want to ensure that there are sufficient funds for their “most generous contract ever.” Speaking of which, good timing by Lori to have proferred that contract months ago. Could you image today, the greedy teachers marching by the smoldering buildings in their “A Bribe is A Bride” shirts demanding huge raises?

Let me get this right: The most grossly overpaid teachers in the nation who have the worst graduation record in the nation are saying that CPS is a failure? Here’s an idea: . Bust CTU now. Fire all CTU members and rehire real non-union teachers at reasonable income and you will see an improvement in CPS education. Guaranteed.

CTU seriously needs to be investigated for racketeering. One can only imagine the amount of graft that takes place within that organization.

Great idea. The first move should be closing all police stations and removing all police officers from the ghetto. Re-assign the officers to the areas of the city where tax payers live. No 911 calls will be answered in the no go zones. Now go rent or find the movie Escape from New York and enjoy.

CPS members, members of an organization that fails in its mission to educate Chicago’s children, are going to advise others?

So, based on their new mission, 1) their failure is due to the existence of the police, and 2) the removal of said police will suddenly enable them to be successful.

From the Onion? April 1st? Nope, no humor here, only bewilderment.

It is evident, the people who lead these movements have no interest in justice for Mr. Floyd, or in trying to create unity. They are, at their very core, anti-American.

What’s the old saying ‘Give an inch, they then want a foot…and so forth’

The lunatic Leftist Democrat mismanagement by Pritzker and the Mayor set this path of nuttiness.

It is comical seeing ‘wokeness’ backfire on those who kept pushing it.

But this is exactly what they want. Lori even blamed the red summer of 1919 for the racism of today, and called my ancestors terrible bigots, even though they had nothing to do with any of this, and had only a decade or two earlier, emigrated from Poland, after emancipation from serfdom.

I’m a bit confused (in general and specifically on this).   If there are no police, then how are laws enforced? Are they advocating the elimination of law enforcement and thus a de facto elimination of laws?   Are they not aware that in a republic, the laws were created by us? And that if we don’t like them–and there is a simple majority, we can simply change them?   It is remarkable to me that these people do not acknowledge the basic tenets of human behavior. Do they think crimes are committed simply because we don’t have nurses and… Read more »

These people are Antifa lovers and supporters. That is who will take over.
Same thing Being proposed in other states….that are…take a guess..Democratic run.

They want chaos and lawlessness. That way, they can swoop in with a “solution” to a problem they themselves created.

“If there are no police, then how are laws enforced?”

People will just follow the laws because they are good natured. Crisis and trauma management teams will intercede and help people talk and work out their problems. Community organizing will play a role in reducing drug addition, violence, and make healthier eating habits.

All nonsense of course, coming from progressive white people who ignore all of the history of civilization.

I agree with them. Let them have what they want. Defund the police department. Drive the city over the cliff and be done with it. Let it burn like Sodom and Gomorrah.

And we better start making plans to get out of Illinois. Stay away from Democratic run states.

Also Thursday, local activists are leading a rally in Grand Boulevard calling on CPS to cancel its contract with Chicago police to employ school resource officers.

Brilliant idea, I hope they get their wish. After the first month of school, the kumbaya resource officer model will have proven to be a failure. Teachers, administrators, CPS employees, parents and their children will be too afraid to show up to school. Parents will demand education vouchers leaving in droves for the private education sector. CPS union will quickly become non-essential and disbanded. One pension crisis resolved.

Exactly. Eliminate law enforcement. See what happens.

No police officers in the schools. Waste of time and money. Let the CPS administration handle out of control students because 99% of the time issues in schools do not involve a reason for LE to be involved.

At least CPS is consistent. Somebody else should give up something in order to get CPS what it wants.

I hear there’s a lot of money in teacher pensions. Maybe CPS would be willing to cut it’s budget to fund this initiative?

One can dream.

How much does CPS spend on the pension pick-up for teachers? Think how many social workers they could hire with that money.

Wouldn’t expect anything less from CPS – Communism Practice Schools!
