Crews Have Replaced Less Than 4% of Lead Service Lines Shown to Contaminate Tap Water in Chicago Homes in 5 Years – WTTW (Chicago)

“We’re in the process of trying to figure out how to get the funding and how to ramp up with contracts, just to be able to hit that number,” Department of Water Management Commissioner Randy said. “We really don’t have the funds necessary to complete this across the city (or) the manpower to do this.”

Illinois could get federal funds but they are too busy suing Trump to claim them. Even more appalling is that they gave themselves 50 years to replace the pipes. Starting in 2027.

“We’re cobbling, you know, all the money together that we possibly can, trying to couple with creative ways of being able to get this done” creative ways is another way of saying BOHICA

You will all be dead by the time the City gets done with this project. Either by age or lead poisoning, but I guess it is what you like about democrats.

Why is this a surprise to anyone? The city and state are totally controlled by democrats. For D’s and their fellow followers, it seems the goal is to never fix the issue, but run a very long process with studies, conferences, lawyers, bureaucracy, pensions for bureaucrats, etc. That is the method they deploy to harvest billions, while gaining perceived power, status, etc. But no meaningful results when it comes to actions to solve the issue. Just a perpetual graft machine. Many examples – the forever war on crime, the drug crisis, or their fake inability to close the border.

Billions of dollars to be made off this program. Costs 1/3 what they city is charged to do the job. No show jobs and no work jobs galore.

High demand low supply + Illinois politics. Why is anyone surprised? Probably someone predicted this outcome when the “project” commenced. Historic mistakes can’t be fixed decades later. This whole thing resembles reparations. Owners should foot the bills. Nobody to sue because limitations periods have expired. Another punch-your-TS-CARD moment.

I’ll reply to myself. The lead pipes may be an environmental hazard (think: Flint, Michigan) which may implicate some federal or state cleanup liability. This doesn’t make the payments any easier, but some responsible government agency might do a Trump-style negotiation with the suppliers and contractors and later reward them a Medal of Freedom to union leaders. Equally likely is that IL law puts the burden on owners to maintain the pipes from the building to the main. So maybe there are loans to make to owners that could spread out the cost. Another consideration: tenants and their lawyers may… Read more »

From the supply to the building, has typically always been the homeowners problem (and should be).

Thanks for clearing this up. That’s also the rule or understanding in jurisdictions I’m more familiar with.

As if this is a surprise to anyone? Not one person working for the city could manage their way out of a wet paper bag.

It’s a good thing the more lead poisoning
the less fall out you absorb during a nuclear
plant meltdown or a nuclear attack. Lead (Pb)
is a great shield.
Good night and good luck.
