Destroying democracy to save democracy, JB Pritzker-style – Wirepoints Quickpoint

By: Mark Glennon*

Law professor Jonathan Turley wrote on Thursday condemning how Democratic groups and commentators are seeking to remove as many as 120 Republicans from ballots in the name of democracy. Turley is nationally recognized for his objectivity and impartiality, earning his newsletter, Res Ipsa Loquitur, an astounding 55 million subscribers.

Turley explained plans to allege that dozens of sitting Republican officeholders participated in what accusers characterize as an insurrection – the 1/6/21 Capitol Building incursion — thereby supposedly disqualifying themselves from office under an obscure provision of the Constitution. That would be like burning books in the name of literacy, Turley wrote, and destroying democracy in order to save democracy.

Turley should consider Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s comments because Pritzker would go further. On Thursday’s 1/6 anniversary, Pritzker wrote this on Twitter:

A year ago today we witnessed a vicious attack on our Capitol and democracy. We can’t sweep the events of Jan. 6 under the rug, and we can’t allow insurrectionists to rewrite history. The facts of that day cannot be up for debate. And those who deny them cannot hold office. [Emphasis added.]

Got that? Agree to the facts as Pritzker sees them or you cannot hold office. Note that Pritzker apparently wouldn’t even require participation in the alleged insurrection to bar somebody from office. Instead, you and everybody else should be barred from office merely if you see the facts differently.

Keep in mind that Pritzker is a lawyer. In fact, Northwestern University’s law school is named the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law thanks to his contributions there, and he is an alumnus.

In light of Pritzker’s status there, perhaps Northwestern could invite him to give an honorary lecture explaining how his bar from office would survive a constitutional challenge. Turley is a Northwestern Law grad, too, so he’d no doubt be thrilled to attend.

Maybe Pritzker’s statement would make even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blush. She gave extensive comments on Thursday about the need to “preserve the narrative” that 1/6 was not a riot but an insurrection and an actual rebellion. Turley wrote separately about Pelosi’s comments. But preserving the narrative apparently isn’t enough for Pritzker. Merely debating it should disqualify anybody from office as he sees things.

Finally, since this is ultimately about accepting election results, it’s ironic that Pritzker served as national co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in light of her views on that. She called Trump an “illegitimate” president and her organization tried to convince Electoral College members committed to Trump to vote for her instead. She also advised Joe Biden during his campaign that, should he lose the vote count, he should never concede “under any circumstances.”

The modern American left, that represents no more than 30% of America but which controls most of the federal government and many states like Illinois and includes the likes of Pritzker, holds a vision of America unrecognizable to most of us. They must be defeated at any price.

Great piece Mark. Illinois is completely lost — as are many East Coast cities — and our Governor is a poster child for rank progressive intolerance. But the majority (not just the silent majority) of this country are voting with their feet, their wallets and their ballots (no ID required, except to get a coffee with a Chicago Vax Pass after) to move to freer pastures. Indiana and Wisconsin are just around the bend. No need to defeat them. Just isolate them in Springfield and Ravenswood.

Old school corrupt politicians were beloved because they “took care of home”. Yes, almost everyone knew they were corrupt, but the streets were clean and repaired, garbage was picked up and all the street lights worked. This current breed will (hopefully) ultimately fail because they do not understand the concept. Pritzker wants to leave a “legacy”. He is succeeding in that, though it won’t be a good one. He feels loved by other politicians because they kiss the ring. They only want his financial support. He can’t tell the difference or doesn’t care. Oh boy, this coming from the Governor who actually marched with the BLM MARXISTS inciting violence on Illinoisans. 1/6 has Democrats written all over it.

Democrats have long, long wanted ‘thought crimes’ going back to Obama and Holder.

If Pritzker was being truly truthful, he would not mind being questioned, would actually welcome it even…

However, the fact that he does not ever want to be challenged, leads me to believe he is either a liar, or fooling himself…

Most lawyers carefully choose their words (see T.Carlson vs T. Cruz)…

The fact that Pritzker makes statements like these on a regular basis, shows he is a incompetent lawyer at best…

Who in the media will challenge a billionaire while he’s spending $200,000,000 (of his own money) on his reelection campaign? Most of that goes to media advertising. The media cannot challenge him because the advertising department and CEO’s won’t let the reporters do their job.

Do you think 560 WIND is going to receive any of JB’s $200,000,000 advertising budget? Amy asks the tough questions and none of that money will go to her employer’s war chest.

Now do NBC 5, or ABC 7, or Sun-Times, Block Club Chicago, or any other hard hitting journalisming outfit around the state.

I moved my family out of Illinois a year ago. It was difficult to leave the state I lived in for 50+ years but I felt it necessary for my financial and physical/emotional health. (Every time I see the Illinois gov or Chicago mayor my blood pressure doubles.) In my past comments I tried to encourage others to flee. (I apologize if I came on too strong at times.) To those of you who stay in Illinois despite being well informed of the death spiral, I’ll simply say “good luck” and remind you that the people of Illinois did not… Read more »
