Editorial: Electric vehicles may be the future – but there will be bumps in the road – Northwest Herald* (Crystal Lake)

"In 2021, legislators passed a bill that established a goal of having 1 million electric vehicles on the road by the end of the decade...At any rate, meeting the goal would cost the state more than $700 million in sales and gas taxes plus another $1.1 billion in federal funds. That money is being counted on to help finance capital infrastructure plans already in place."

Questions. There were two massive pileups in WI just past the IL border. Close to 80 vehicles involved, stopping traffic in both directions for three hours. Were there any EVs in the backup? If you were in an EV, what do you do for three hours? What if you only had, say, a half charge? Turn the EV off? My understanding is that cold weather uses up the charge faster and cuts mileage greatly. Temps were close to zero, what do you do for heat? Will you even know where to get your next charge, stuck out there like that?… Read more »

Considering easily a third of your monthly electric bill goes to taxes and fees it’s not as if they aren’t making money from it. They could redirect the taxes levied to the road fund.

Politicians believe in assembling airplanes mid-air.

The concept, proof of concept, development, and implementation are some of the normal steps; politicians go from concept to implementation and ignore the most important parts.

It’s as if they live in an alternate universe where dreams and wishes reign.

Stupid politicians! (Chickens are smarter.)

When EV charging stations are installed in parking lots of malls, grocery stores, big box stores etc they should be located in the most remote location and as far away from the front doors as possible. Since EV owners are all about climate change and saving the planet a little exercise would be good for them.
