Editorial: Marathon cancellation is a major blow to Chicago, both dreams and money – Chicago Tribune

" Add another blow to Chicago’s budget, already limping along through the cancellations of conventions, concerts, sporting events and tourist attractions. The marathon drew participants and their friends and families from around the world, bringing an estimated $338 million to city coffers."

Cancelling the marathon saves the city from the embarrassment of the runners complaining about being shot at during the race

The city is going to down-spiral, from the center out. There is no money coming in and there are none of the millions of restaurant/theater/museum/event goers who keep it buzzing, “cheery” (generally) and culturally/economically viable. I speak as a 20-yr. direct witness to the Normal vs. the now.
Recommendation to any in the area – exit now and witnesseth no further…
