Editorial: Rooting for government merger mania in cash-strapped Illinois – Chicago Tribune*

"This state has more government units than any other: nearly 7,000 of them, including villages, townships, housing authorities and drainage districts. Every one takes its share of dollars from you, the taxpayers. Many of these taxing bodies operate without much scrutiny and offer services that could be handled by others. Many provide taxpayer-funded pensions."

Just what Illinois needs…. A larger and even more corrupt government than it already has!!!

It is time to shrink all Illinois governmental entities not consolidate and make it bigger.
