Expert: Illinois’ outdated tax law leaves homeowners, taxpayers on the hook – Center Square

“Since 2019, about 1,000 homeowners in Cook County, including 125 seniors, have lost their homes over unpaid property taxes,” said Lylena Estabine, policy researcher with the Illinois Policy Institute. “Rather than reimbursing owners for their home’s value minus the debt, investors take the entire amount. Researchers found investors in Illinois collected $148 million more than they were owed between 2014 and 2021.”

Did the Supreme Court actually say the government can’t steal someone’s home value? It’s so much fun watching the wheels coming off the bus as it careens over the cliff full throttle.

That law will not change. It’s another way for Democrats to steal money from taxpayers.

Real estate taxes should be based on a percent of income.
Poor people don’t like in mansions and rich people don’t live in dumps.
As you income increases so do your taxes when you retire you income and taxes get reduced.
Just a base idea, there might be a lot of holes and maybe that won’t work but people won’t be losing their houses….

That would not fly. Legally, it would be regarded as an income tax and a progressive one at that.

Good Lord!
When did Lylena Estabine, Harvard, Class of 2024 (!) with her BA in sociology (!) become an “expert” on real estate tax law and Constitutional law?!

Who’s in charge over at the Center Square?!

P.S. Nothing says “bedrock conservative” like a scholarship from the Obama Foundation.
