Federal judge rules section of Illinois’ concealed carry law unconstitutional – Chicago Tribune/Yahoo

U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston wrote that the defendants, among them Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, “failed to meet their burden to show an American tradition of firearm regulation at the time of the Founding that would allow Illinois to prohibit Plaintiffs — who hold concealed carry permits — from carrying concealed handguns for self-defense onto the CTA and Metra.”

Whenever I see those ILCS 430s posted. Its as if I don’t see them. Because I don’t care.

Just read the opinion. Thank the lord there is still a judge on the bench (even if it is federal court) that can read the constitution and understand precedent. Where are all the lackey Cook County and other judges who have dealt with cases similar to this over the decades? Elected Democrat politicians– of course.

Thanks Chicago, Cook County, etc. for maintaining this Wild West atmosphere where we need to carry concealed weapons to feel even somewhat safe using public transportation.

One of the safest places in the country is the gun range, where everyone knows the other guy is armed. If nearly everyone was armed and trained, the only criminals left attacking people would be those with a death wish. Weekly news of criminals being shot in self defense by concealed carry holders should put a screeching halt to this type of activity. Fake news media could even put out false reports of criminals being shot and invoke the first amendment or abolition of the Smith-Mundt Act in defense. Notice they never miss the chance to bring up the Highland… Read more »

An armed citizenry makes for safety well in almost every place in the world except the ‘hood which unfortunately flips this axiom upside down, because few there use guns responsibly, and instead take target practice at their neighbors often mowing down innocent bystanders. They go as far as shooting at each other while driving on the expressway. My wife, who fits the stereotype of bad drivers, the other day wasn’t paying attention and basically cut someone off who was trying to merge onto 94. I caught a glimpse of the other driver waving his hands in frustration as my wife,… Read more »

Good point. Ive had items thrown at my vehicle. Bottles, rocks etc. Been chased. Two vehicle crash/damage fraud attempts. Surprised I haven’t been shot at. I’m most definitely prepared though. Any perceived slight in traffic these days can lead to gun shots. Stay safe.

I hope this is not the last time we see these words in print “ the defendants, among them Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin”

Good thought. You are right– not a one of them gives a hoot abut the Constitution, the Amendments or precedent.

While I agree with this decision, this Trump Appointee from a fourth tier law school that would have never been appointed but for Trump’s necessity to dig deep into the well to find conservative attorneys in the Northern District of Illinois. The federal courts used to be a very prestigious appointment with an informal requirement of graduating from a top school with top grades and several years experience at a top law firm. This judge graduated from the lowest ranked law school in Illinois. He replaced a judge from U of I ranked at the moment #36 but used to… Read more »

Chicago is like a Charles Bronson movie – law abiding people need to protect themselves from the coddled criminals.

Public transportation is where people need guns for self defense. The criminals bring weapons on public transportation.

The judge made the right call. I am curious to know why Bob Berlin was part of this.

I just looked up the case. 3 of the plaintiffs live in Dupage County and take Metra from stations in Dupage County. Disappointed that Mr. Berlin does not understand the 2nd amendment and the right to self defend ourselves.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
