Forest Park mayor calls for state funding to address security after deadly CTA shooting – NBC5 (Chicago)

Tuesday, Gov. JB Pritzker indicated his support for funding to address crime on the CTA. "I absolutely believe that as we look at reforms we're making to the transit system, that we need to be addressing the broader question of why aren't we, why isn't there enough security being provided? Of course Springfield will be an important part of that," he said.

Mayor Hoskins seems to be quite reasonable for a politician.

“… why isn’t there enough security being provided?” In other words, why isn’t IL spending more taxpayer money? The quote should be: why aren’t we incarcerating violent criminals? Also, I wouldn’t feel safe on a bus or train in the middle of a shootout between a thug and a security employee.

And off course ZERO criticism of Foxx in press as shooter Davis had a criminal record a mile long and a list of dismissed charges a mile long ,several involving guns……and don’t forget folks, KH was on Kim’s transition to office team to develop policy.

Always the same. Put more money into it. I knew this headline was coming.

These people really are stupid. It’s crime in general and the lack of consequences. It could happen anywhere. Until we get serious about putting habitual offenders behind bars it will only get worse. Get more security on the CTA then you’re just moving the criminal elsewhere.

Hopefully funding for standard issue pepper spray or firearms training and not more security or law enforcement to pick up the pieces after the fact. Tell people not to fall asleep in a war zone. Criminals are mostly opportunists and will avoid starting trouble when police are present. Pepper spray can be even more effective than a firearm in close quarter situations, assuming the criminal is blinded and unable to find their target and retaliate.

Perhaps the mayor should push for an end to the system that encourages fatherless homes instead.

And our schools should start promoting family values instead of Sex Education and Trans values starting in Kindergarten.

Fatherless homes is a contributing factor but not the cause of societies’ dysfunction. I’ve seen pundits overlay charts of single motherhood increasing since 1990 while and crime rates decrease since 1990. There are lots of causes.

Could one reason for the crime decrease since 1990 simply be that the Baby Boom generation aged out of their crime prone years? By then the youngest Boomers (like myself) would have been about 26 years old, and the oldest would have been 44.

Good question. Never thought about it and never looked at it.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
