The state and city of Chicago together spent about $107 million to build and then operate a little-used field hospital at McCormick Place. It closed in early May after receiving only 38 patients over four weeks. The average cost of treating a patient there was at least $2.81 million.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
