IDPH, show us the science behind your call for outdoor masks – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

Dare we suggest that the Illinois Department of Public Health should read more left-leaning media? Maybe so because it’s indeed that side of the press that has been most aggressively documenting the case against one of the department’s central messages.

“Keep wearing your mask outdoors to protect you and those around you!” That was the message we heard once again as recently as this past weekend from the Illinois Department of Public Health on Twitter.

But consider what’s been written in these left-leaning sources, all just in the past week, all of which reviewed the balance of the studies and expert opinion:

  • “Set Us Free From Outdoor Mask Mandates!” – that’s the headline in The New Republic. If you believe in outdoor masking, the article concludes, “You’re insisting on operating within a moral paradigm that’s been rendered moot by a year’s worth of peer-reviewed research.”
  • The Atlantic says governments “need to give Americans an off-ramp to the post-pandemic world. Ending outdoor mask requirements would be a good place to start.” After reviewing the evidence, the author says he prefers “a more targeted-neurotic approach that just tells the truth. And the truth is that COVID-19 is basically an indoor/talking disease.”
  • A Washington Post was not about masking specifically, but about the generally low risk in outdoor activities. “Many scientists and public health experts say that outdoor spaces now warming under the spring sun should be viewed as havens in the battle against” the virus. “Near-absent are examples at beaches and other opens spaces where breezes disperse airborne particles, distancing is easier, and humidity and sunlight render the coronavirus less viable.” One expert said the emphasis on outdoor risk may drive gatherings indoors, where the risk is real.
  • Slate’s headline was “It’s About Time for Us to Stop Wearing Masks Outside.” Among the experts and studies the article sites is one who said outdoor masking “almost becomes ridiculous” as vaccinations increase. “Whether we wear masks at all times outside has become a combination of politics and regional attitudes toward the virus—not science,” wrote Slate.

None of those articles calls for throwing caution to the outdoor wind. Those with high risk factors, especially the elderly, should remain cautious everywhere unless vaccinated.

None of them cherry-picked the studies and experts. Read them yourself and you’ll see that they gave fair consideration to what evidence there is for risk outdoors.

And none of them based their case on a claim that masks aren’t effective. They seem to assume masks are effective – an assumption that’s widely debated – but that’s another story.

Are they wrong, IDPH? If so, make your case.

Show us your work, in other words. Teachers tell students that because they want to know what if any work went into an answer. The same applies here. It’s your own credibility that’s sacrificed when you don’t make the case to support your orders.

Fauci must read Wirepoints. Finally admitted that common sense says you don’t need a mask outdoors

What a crock, all of it.

May 1st my mask is consigned to the history books.

Actually on Thursday I did not wear a mask at 7 Eleven and a car dealership. No issues. Both said as long as I socially distanced. Try it.

Good, I’ve been doing the same. And I’ve seen others too, it was refreshing to see a man my age walk into the restaurant with no mask just as I just did.

Good on you. Friday I went into a sports store and a Starbucks, aside from funny looks by sheeple no issues being served.

I should add I know several folks in other states, and met some of them Friday here. There is no doubt the great people of Illinois are beaten down, many given up and to some extent they all said no one could blame us.

We need to act. Dumpster fires for masks anyone?

masks cause illness and disease and are for the fourth reich what the armbands were for the third reich. these fascists like gauleiter prickster and his evil head of the IDPH need to go to nuremburg for thier crimes along with all those that gave him the power to destroy millions of lives for no reason.

Does anyone feel at all concerned that 90% of all PPP including masks come from China? The same friendly country who brought us COVID-19, data hacks, copyright infringements, climate issues and most every other thing that is screwed up in the world!

Remember– Ezike was the one who point blank said that if you die in an auto accident and you are determined to have Covid, that is a Covid caused death. So I’m not sure how much science there ever was from the get-go in Illinois.

I’ve never worn one outside, didn’t even know there was some kind of mandate.

The mask mandate only applies outdoors where physical distancing isn’t possible.

The outdoors provides breezy fresh air and vitamin D. Gov. Pritzker provides a steady parade of middle to lower part of their class medical professionals who bask in their newly acquired attention and enjoy forcing meaningless behaviors on the people who didn’t hang around with them in high school.

Wasn’t Gov. Toilets ordered by the court some time ago to produce this evidence? At the rate we are going, we’ll see Bigfoot before we see the evidence.

It just gives all of us that sinking feeling that our legal system and “rights” are based on an illusion. If the rules can be thrown out for every “exception” then there are no rules.

So,i use a vape, did my own very simple experiment to prove that masks do nothing to prevent covid.IF you vape try this….puff on the vape, put on your mask, then exhale,EVERTHING you blow out comes out around the edges of the mask,so someone please tell me what these masks are supposed to be doing?

I’ve been sending people the vape videos since last summer. It’s comical how worthless they really are and the empirical evidence is overwhelming that there’s little to no impact. The worst part of all this is that the burden of proof should be on the idiots mandating this stuff yet here we are the ones having to defend ourselves. The masking of kids is borderline child abuse. Since the pandemic started, 258 Covid-RELATED deaths under the age of 18 (not Covid-caused — the number is even less stripping out co-morbidities or simple correlation). But let’s give them the benefit of… Read more »

Head to duck duck go and search “face mask vape dr noel” and you’ll find a clever doctor demonstrate the whole thing. It’s supremely comical when you think about it. You’re welcome!

I wear a N-95 mask when I buff aluminum, after an hour I’ll have some black under the mask,if I’m not recently shaved, and have stubble I’m completely black, and those are much bigger particles. I really get a kick out of people with full beards hiding behind their masks, maybe J.B. should insist everyone is clean shaven,if it saves just one life we have to do it,come on guys get those woke gillette razors going.

Almost forgot, when I do my buffing the first thing I do when done is have a few beers, this gets me pretty buzzed, because of the lack of oxygen I had over the last few hours from wearing a mask,so the benefit of mask wearing is you need less alcohol.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
