This decision on the modest federal program for families will be a watershed for Pritzker if he is serious about running for president. Many states already have their own programs in addition. Pritzker sides with the Leftist teacher unions again, he can forget any serious run for president.

Are they really “educators”? Of course not. They are union activists parading as teachers who don’t give hoot abut he kids. The prese lets them get away with using the moniker of “educator”. Its not surprising that NPR touts the phony label.

Illinois voters basically have decided that they do not want the program for their children because they elected the politicians that are against programs like these. I will simply contribute to schools in other states where the voters are apparently more concerned about their children than Illinoisans. Life continues on in the sinkhole known as Illinois.

Teachers are protecting their jobs. If any parent or student was given a choice, they would take the voucher to a school where teachers actually teach, not indoctrinate. That would force teachers to actually do their jobs. IL students should not be forced to stay in failing public schools.

Of course they want to reject vouchers. Allowing kids to go to a school of their choice to actually focus on academics would actually benefit the students and not the grifters. It is what socialists do. Education for me and not for thee.

It is worth noting that the higher ups usually send their kids to private schools, or at least the best public schools that they can find. We deplorables, the ones that pay their salaries, deserve to have our children “ educated “ in any old Marxism indoctrinating, trans pushing dangerous hell hole along others that are only there for the free meals, to meet up with the opposite sex and sell drugs and menace everyone else.

You’re free to send your kids to any private school (or the very best public school you can find) you want. You are free to use your own money just like the “higher ups”. You’re not free to have us pay for it. Time to pull yourself up by your bootstraps or some of that “rugged individualism”. So many entitled people just want a free lunch off of the government.

Doesn’t everything you say also apply to our being forced to fund public education?

No it doesn’t. Please refer to Article X, Section 1 of the Illinois Constitution to learn the difference.

“The State shall provide for an efficient system of high quality public educational institutions and services.”

The people have decided through our constitution that PUBLIC education should be provided. They are under no obligation to fund private education. That’s on you.

“Education in public schools through the secondary level shall be free.”

Again, PUBLIC schools will be free. If you want private, pay for it yourself.

The state and local governments haven’t failed to provide it. Some students and their families have failed to do their part. You could take those same “failing” schools and enroll kids from new trier and it would magically be succeeding.

Now I’m not saying the state can’t fund private schools but the question is how can the state “force” the taxpayers to pay for public education. I answered that with the Illinois Constitution. The voters don’t seem to think it’s that big of a deal or they would elect different leaders.

PPF – I can’t follow you here. You state that the State is under no obligation to fund private education, invoking the Illinois Constitution. But a federal voucher program is on play here, not a State of Illinois program. How is a reference to Statevsithority relevant!!

Read the question I was asked.

Doesn’t everything you say also apply to our being forced to fund public education?”

I was answering the question as to WHY we are forced to pay for public education. We are forced to pay for public education but not private. If you want the state to fund (or allow federal vouchers) private education then you will need the majority of the voters to choose candidates that support that mission. The current ones don’t and the voters seem quite content.
