Last century a bloke named Cyril Parkinson observed even as the British Empire shrank precipitously, the attached Colonial Office required an ever-increasing number of bureaucrats to administer the empire. This led to one aspect of what came to be known as Parkinson’s Law which is alive and well in Illinois.

This is probably a paid deflection ordered by Cook County. Kane county is one of the only counties to actually have grown in the past ten years and is about 1/10th the population of Cook Nothing is said about the gigantic donkey in the room.

Kane County may have issues worth discussing, but Illinois government cuts need to start with Cook County. It is also home to the most concentrated number of municipalities and overlap – and by definition of this article, the most wasteful.

Illinois legislature needs to force school consolidations, even if they first just target districts with 1-3 schools. Cut finding for any district which has less than 4 schools. There are many examples of districts within slingshot distance between schools and seperate districts, a huge was of funding.

This seems to be an AI moment. It has the ability to collect and correlate all this information and compare it to other states. We always knew IL has the largest number of government units, but this focus on Kane County is beyond illuminating. All these government units and the pensions, payrolls, and benefits just eat up taxpayers money.
