Illinois is still a national outlier. Yet lawmakers decided to give themselves a near-$3,000 pay raise in the 2023 budget – Wirepoints on NBC5 Chicago with Mary Ann Ahern

During a segment about the 2023 budget, Ted Dabrowski told Mary Ann Ahern of NBC 5 that the 2023 budget does nothing to fix Illinois or reverse the flow of residents out of the state, yet lawmakers still decided to give themselves a near-$3,000 pay increase.

The residents, like us, who leave IL are mostly Republicans, fiscally and politically aware, conservative, and don’t see any hope for change. Those staying behind have government jobs, perpetual Democrats, progressives, and deniers of IL dire finances. The house of cards will eventually fall on them, whether bankruptcies or enormous taxes and they may not have a way out. I will not have a lot of sympathy for them, they saw the signs and that was what they voted for every election.

Who says it doesn’t work? The raises kept the legislators from moving out of state.

If channel 5 is having Ted on, It is encouraging. The word is getting out. The Tribune has has Ted and Mark write opinion pieces. If the information gets out, there is a chance for change.

Culture war aside, even Democrats have bills and fear crime. The disconnect between government and the people has never become more apparent. So called kitchen table issues are winners, especially locally.

With the police dept going “fetal” as Rahm Emmanuel would say, and who can blame them. The climate for change is ripe.

“The disconnect between government and the people has never become more apparent.”

That’s the inevitable result of the Progressive’s hostile takeover of the Democrat Party.

But I don’t see any change coming because that would require lifelong Democrats to vote Republican. It’s not like the Progressives are going to get voted out or voluntarily give up power. Progressives’ talking points are that the polls are so bad for the Democrat Party because it hasn’t gone Progressive Enough!

Very hard for some to look in the mirror and acknowledge they are the problem.

You overestimate how many people are actually “progressive”, whatever that means. Most voters are over 50, and how many of them like the crime, the high taxes, lousy schools, so called kitchen table issues. Lightfoot is Hillary Clinton with different pigment and a wife. She’s just as out of touch, and just as tone deaf to what real people think. Clinton ignored WI, MI, PA, Lightfoot ignores the bungalow belt, and most people who actually work for a living. In the information silo you live in, all is gone. There are almost 14 million people in Illinois, not all of… Read more »

I’m tired of picking the lesser of two evils, aren’t you?

I am. But I only have the illusion of choice right now because Republicans don’t win in IL. Democrats win and they’ve largely adopted a Progressive Platform even if a particular Democrat politician is not a progressive. Look at how overwhelmingly every Democrat supported the Progressive policies over the previous three years in Springfield. Voters may not be progressive but they Always Vote Blue No Matter Who and this is what they gave us. They aren’t suddenly going to switch parties to become Republicans.

Ive lived in IL for over 30 years. We’ve had three Republican governors since then, so voting Republican isn’t the panacea you think it is. Im talking about fundamental change. You buy into this binary choice construct. It’s doesn’t have to be red or blue. These are two cults now. Both parties are so disconnected with what real people want in government. Rauner wasted night bully pulpit because he wasn’t willing to be out of the loop for insider deals. Trump wasted his because of the same and he was too dumb and lazy to fight for us. DeSantis is… Read more »

Voting Republican will temporarily stop the bleeding, which is the first step to fixing the state. Progressives are in control and they are crazy. Its not a panacea but it’s only the first step.

There are more than two binary choices, there’s really four choices between two parties – traditional dems, progressives on one side, and RINO’s and MAGA’s one the other.

I would take it a step further and call the progressives possessed. With the abortion laws passed they worship Moloch. No punishment for crimes committed. Gangs in control. Covid debacle from lockdowns-public schools closed while private schools remained open. Raising tax after tax and calling the fiscal mismanagement a revenue problem not a spending one. Balancing a budget?? with federal money and calling it a win. They go to orthopedic doctors on a regular basis from breaking their arms patting themselves on the back. Worst is that the word Reform is not in their language.

I disagree and suggest instead voting out ALL incumbents because quite frankly, none of them are any good

Whatever happens in the next election, it’s going to be too little too late to save Illinois.

A famous conservative on twatter lives in CA and frequently gets asked why he lives there despite it being a liberal hellhole. He basically says he has family there, his life/job/employment/weather is nice, and he networks with other conservatives. That’s kind of how I feel about IL. I have family roots going back 6+ generations, my life is nice, my housing is affordable, my job pays well, and my life is mostly spent with other conservatives. Progressive crazy people exist everywhere but I don’t deal with them in my social circle or my local politics too much. I know I… Read more »
