“Our state is tough and resilient and forward-looking. Far from heading toward the abyss, as some predicted, we are on the verge of delivering a world class transportation network,” Gov. JB Pritzker, a Democrat, said. “This new law not only averts the ‘cliff,’ but preserves affordability and makes transit safer and more reliable."

The only consolation in this is that collar counties get fleeced to shore up a failed jobs program for Chicago public unions. The collar counties voted for Pritzker and these Democrats – no they get it.
You’re right. The voters in the collar counties voted for this and now they have to pay. The majority should be happy. Choices have consequences.

The safety plans will do little to make it safer to be on their public transit. Nothing has been said to reduce the revolving door through the Courts to keep criminals off the streets in the first place. This is exactly what I thought would happen, more prOgrams to spend the billion on and more hiring…. that will put transit ambassadors (like it’s people just looking for directions) to direct people and help with safety. Unarmed. Stupid. Oh and the implementation of an App to help report problems…won’t that help and won’t that discourage a nutball with some gas and… Read more »

Ugh; another article headline begging for an alternate version. Well, here goes: Illinois law generates $1.5B to save public from Illinois leaders managing taxpayer money responsibly.
How about “Transit agency, plagued by low and decreasing ridership rewarded for their devotion to keeping empty seats in motion”
or
“Local Political Animals rejoice that transit agency gravy train payments will not be curtailed due to lack of ridership. Downstate taxpayers are only too happy to tithe to friends and pals of pols.”
Those work, too. Lovin’ the “keeping empty seats in (perpetual) motion.”

Hey Gov, how will this infusion of additional money prevent mentally ill criminals from accessing public transit?

Notice the TOLL fare increase doesn’t kick in until 2027 saving him during his losing presidential run . He also ties the Toll increase to INFLATION ie his gasoline roadway tax .

This legislation is a fiscal calamity. Low ridership should not be rewarded.
Idiotic puff pieces excusing the misdeeds of Illinois’ political animals are the stock in trade of the Useless Chicago Media in action. Again.

Initiatives to improve safety will include cross-jurisdictional law enforcement cooperation led by the Cook County sheriff; in 2027, a “transit ambassador” plan will put unarmed staff on trains to assist riders with safety issues while law enforcement and social services will develop a long-term strategy for assistance; and there will be a mobile application allowing riders to report problems.
Not seeing how the above improves safety. Wow a mobile app to report problems! Does that give one a faster response than 911? Yes, I know 911 is pretty lacking these days.

Remember the “lock box” for road funds? Pritzker sure found a way to worm around that. Just more hilariousness from the State of Illinois oh, and lets not forget, a great headline article for Pritzker’s Presidential run courtesy of ABC.

Pritzker Illinois is a fiscal cliff looking you right in the face
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
