Illinois lawmakers could give prisoners voting rights before 2024 election – WAND (Decatur)

Illinois Democratic lawmakers hope to pass a plan this fall to allow prisoners to vote. The state already allows people held in county jails to register and vote, but people serving time in prisons do not have the same rights. "We need to make sure that the people that are 'voiceless' as it relates to their future have someone to stand up for them for justice," state Rep. LaShawn Ford said.

With all the crap going on in the world, all the stupidity…why is this even a thing that our elected officials would even spend a second thinking about? Ridiculous! Lower our taxes, cut spending, eliminate corruption…improve the lives of the actual tax payers! Why would anyone think we should spend a second on this…just stupid.

Losing the right to vote was a penalty for those that commit felonies against the general citizenry. The Democrats now seek to decriminalize crime with things like no cash bail, police defunding and eliminating the penalty of not being allowed to vote. Welcome to the future of Illinois where penalties for lawlessness are eliminated. Last civil person out, turn on the lights.

How can someone in prison really be informed about their vote?

The union prison guards will collect the inmates’ signed ballot in the commissary. The inmates dont even need to fill it out.

For sake of brevity I won’t go int it all but I had a relative in a nursing home that was mentally alert but physically unable. Most in the home were afflicted with Alzheimer’s. My relative said she did not vote but the County said her vote was counted. Can we assume then that nursing home votes are harvested, per your thoughts, in a similar manner by the “voting helpers” dispatched by the Counties’?

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
