This seems to be a violation of the first amendment freedom of speech. So now the Illinois taxpayers will get stuck with the costs of defending the ultimately winning lawsuit by a school board coupled with a liberty and freedom public support advocacy group. Of course the Democrat politicians don’t care. They’d rather virtue signal and have someone else deal with the consequences. Thereby they will remain pure and woke beacons of virtue.

A local school board can vote to ban a Native American mascot right now without any state legislation.

If anyone in the local community is offended, they can bring their case to the school board.

This would be an unfunded mandate on any local school board which has a Native American mascot in one or more of its schools, and does not wish to ban the mascot(s).

wow they are hitting all the progressive low hanging fruit these days aren’t they… maybe its a good thing they aren’t doing anything actually useful other than virtue signaling, because useful to them means more wealth redistribution to their cronies! Also when is the bill to change the name of the state going to happen? We must erase all native american history, so come on, its CURRENT YEAR! WTF!

No bill to ban double dipping in the pensions, or 3% increases, but they want to ban imaginary mascots.

Democrats! More concerned with fighting the culture wars than solving the real, hard problems confronting our state.
