Illinois is facing billions in deficits because politicians at every level misused the federal covid cash windfall – Wirepoints on with Jeff Daly of WZUS Decatur Radio

Ted joined Jeff Daly to talk about the outcome of the election, why Gov. Pritzker is doubling down on his anti-Trump rhetoric after Trump performed better than expected and why the governor should focus on Illinois’ own problems instead of challenging Trump. The state is facing $23 billion in deficits, Chicago is still swamped with violent crime and new education data shows students still can’t read or do math at grade level.

Misused is not the correct verb.

Chicago is over, done, finis. Send in the clowns; i.e., Brandon Johnson. And the State of IL is being led into financial oblivion now that Pritsker has sold state government to the labor unions. Now, like some Star Wars Resistance movement, JB is going to the mat to protect his illegal immigrants in hope they will vote (D) in the future.

They’re already voting D now, we have motor voter laws, illegals with state licenses automatically registered to vote.

Illinois politicians misused funds. Wow, what a revelation. They have been stealing from you in front of your face for almost 100 years and you just willingly shrug your shoulders and say give me another tax hike. When do you realize that Illinois is the way it is because you have a slave mentality? Democrats have relied on your stupidity for decades and they are not wrong.

Illinois’ original nickname was “the sucker state” in the 1800’s. Fitting.

Need composite statistics, not just for White, black and Hispanic students. Workforces are multi ethnic so employers look at this. There’s simply no way there will be a resurgence in manufacturing in the state w/o an educated workforce. Bear in mind Trump’s whole point behind tariffs is not to punish consumers of foreign made goods, it’s to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. If you build it here there’s going to be a 0% tariff on it.

Are you ever struck by the incredible lack of intelligence possessed by Illinois politicians? Combine that with a complete lack of morals and it’s easy to see how the state ended up where it is. The free fed Covid bucks were the equivalent of handing a five year old a hundred dollar bill and turning them loose in a candy store with no supervision. Given the performance of the Illinois education system it shouldn’t surprise anyone that the state is run by morons.

After the feds sent the states $2T for COVID, was there no oversight from the feds or states on how the money was spent?

No. Should have been a campaign issue. The fraud in the handouts is the biggest financial scandal ever.

That’s amazing. The open-border policy for illegal immigrants was amazing, too. Neither issue was amazing in a good sense; more in a horrific sense.

If you had predicted not so many years ago that America would do all the suicidal things to itself that it has done in the past few years, I’d have called you nuts.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
