Illinois set to bar credit card fees on tax, tip portion of bills in July – WAND (Decatur)

Banks and credit unions have been in court trying to stop the first-in-the-nation legislation. Last week, a federal Judge in Northern Illinois ruled the law can be implemented.

Let’s see what credit cards don’t work in July…
See how happy the retailers are then.

Credit cards will still work. It’s unfair to make retailers, and ultimately consumers, pay the interchange fees on taxes the retailer collects for the government. This is one of the only decent consumer protection laws to come out of Springfield. Nobody needs to give the banks more free money. The law needs work though as it is difficult to implement. If other states would adopt the law it could become standard and save consumers billions of dollars a year.
