Illinois Superintendents Ponder ‘What It Will Take’ To Reopen Schools – Patch Chicago

In Illinois, where the state hasn't released its guidance yet, superintendents have started the planning process for fall reopenings — and attempted to game out additional costs. Working with flat budgets, they are trying to ensure students and staff members are safe, even as they work to contain the spread of the virus in schools.

Here’s where the dollars spent on these highly educated superintendents and principals and teachers should be measured. These highly decorated and compensated “professionals” should be able to work through the operational needs of this issue. They are again waiting for someone else to tell them what to do…these are people who are paid very well to LEAD. If they can’t do that, the board of education in every school district in the state needs to fire them. Suddenly these administrative people who are compensated highly because their unique ability to work in the education space…are unable to LEAD and unable… Read more »

What your comment suggests is that schools even down to the individual teacher ought to have the quick responses to changing conditions as does a sports car. In fact, it’s quite the opposite and more like trying to turn a battle ship. Literally none of it can be done nearly so quickly. You can do otherwise only by “winging it,” and that brings forth even more problems.

Well, years of planning lead to common core and progressive indoctrination. So, yeah, winging it is probably much much better, in my opinion.

Yeah, winging it may not be the best approach, not really what I was suggesting, but ya know, they’ve certainly had 3 months working on this issue…an entire quarter of the year to figure out the approach they want to implement. They do not seem any closer to knowing what they want to do here than before. The State Board of Education and Illinois Dept of Health released “Starting the 2020-2021 School year 60+ page planning document dated June 23, 2020. Yep – yesterday. It has some direction, but is so high level that it is ridiculous. Clearly (right or… Read more »

Have you ever noticed that many jobs always seem so easy and even brainless to the guy who has never had to do it? In the real world of actually doing it plans go awry as unforeseen obstructions intervene which results in less than perfect agreement as to what needs doing, how to do it and what priority goes to using resources for each sub-task along the way. Hence, “cost over-runs” and their non-financial equIvalents are the norm in any complex activity rather than the exception. That’s the underlying issue when long-standing operating procedures in government or large businesses need… Read more »

Yes, of course… the process, obstructions and priority discussions and planning and development of sub-tasks and etc., etc. Yes, there is a lot to do and getting it done in a school district is like herding cats. That’s certainly a given. It is interesting talking with someone who arbitrarily decides that people who have an opinion and simply require performance from school officials…simply do not understand the hardships that face them everyday and those hardships are seemingly greater than those facing others. Some here may think the District Folks are “morons”, but most don’t subscribe to that statement. The School… Read more »

The public school system in Illinois is nothing but an unmitigated educational and financial
disaster that must be defunded if Illinois, Cook County and the City of Chicago want to avoid bankruptcy. Let the parents, black parents in particular, homeschool their children. That way they no longer will be subject to racist rantings of white teachers who are protected by the Chicago Teachers Union.

It is time to completely defund the most disgraceful governmental entity that has ever been foisted upon the unsuspecting taxpayer.

I’ve said it before hear on wirepoints and I’ll say it again, abolish the public school system and let parents who have children in school PAY YOUR OWN WAY, enough of the abuse by school districts, free stuff has to end
