Illinois transit agencies face ‘trust cliff’ along with fiscal cliff – Center Square

State Rep. Kam Buckner questioned why the RTA spent $500,000 on the “Save Transit Now” campaign for more funding: “The best PR campaign for RTA and any other service agencies is reliable transit. It’s not spending a half-million dollars to remind the General Assembly that you’re running out of money. Some people use the words 'coerce' or 'cajole.' I felt it was a bullying effort, and I don’t think it worked."

“Buckner questioned why the RTA spent $500,000 from its operating budget on the “Save Transit Now” campaign for more funding.” Any government agency spending anything on lobbyists and campaigns solely to squeeze more juice out of taxpayers should be patently illegal. This is de rigueur in Madiganistan. Kam illustrates the insanity of the RTA executive directors plainly with just that question above. If only that were the only instance of their mismanagement. Kam should ask about the warehouse that Metra mysteriously forgot the prepurchase due diligence on, paid too many confiscated taxpayer dollars for, and had to keep shoveling taxpayer… Read more »
