Indefensible: Vilification And Hectoring To Vaccinate Children Expands – Wirepoints

By: Mark Glennon*

Informed parents have a simple reason why they might choose not to vaccinate their children against COVID: Experts disagree on whether it is safe.

That much is certain. Many experts believe COVID vaccines are safe and effective for children, but these are among many who say otherwise:

  • The World Health Organization says there “are currently no efficacy or safety data for children below the age of 12 years. Until such data are available, individuals below 12 years of age should not be routinely vaccinated.
  • Yale epidemiologist Harvey Risch says the benefits of vaccinating children are outweighed by the risks, and he would rather pull a child from school than submit to a requirement that they be vaccinated.
  • Martin Kulldorff, who was an epidemiologist and biostatistician at Harvard Medical School for ten years, says “It will take a few years until we know the COVID vaccine risk profile, and until then, we do not know whether there is more benefit or harm in vaccinating children. The benefits of the vaccine for young people do not outweigh even the small risk of “a serious adverse event…. When government officials ignore these important issues, trust in vaccines declines among everyone,” he recently wrote.

Parents therefore should be entirely free from condescending insults and coercion if they choose not to vaccinate their children or to wait until better evidence is in.

But politicians, including President Joe Biden and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, have resorted to hectoring and steamrolling parents into vaccinating their kids, pretending that the science in favor of vaccinating kids is certain.

CDC vaccine messaging directed at children.

Most reprehensibly, some are making direct appeals to children. The Centers for Disease Control offers posters and social media graphics directed at kids like those shown here “to use in exam rooms, waiting rooms, schools, and on your social media channels” to make that direct appeal to children.

Biden, in his Tuesday afternoon television address, surely knowing it would be heard by many children, warned of a “winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated,” claiming vaccination is a “patriotic duty.” His administration is promoting the vax for all kids age five and up.

Lightfoot’s new mandate shuts out from restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues any child five and up who can’t show proof of vaccination. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s office praised Lightfoot’s new mandate, raising the question of whether he will impose it statewide.

That’s unconscionable. Some common sense on the general topic of vaccines and masks came last week from Colorado’s Democratic Governor Jared Polis:

“You know, public health [officials] don’t get to tell people what to wear; that’s just not their job, Polis Public health [officials] would say to always wear a mask because it decreases flu and decreases [other airborne illnesses]. But that’s not something that you require; you don’t tell people what to wear. You don’t tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it]. If they get frostbite, it’s their own darn fault.

“If you haven’t been vaccinated, that’s your choice. I respect that.”

The controversy will now deepen, given the clear need for boosters to maintain any reasonable vax efficacy, and given the far higher likelihood of breakthrough infection by the new Omicron variant. That’s because boosters are particularly controversial for young people. Prof. Marty Makary of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine wrote this week that boosters for young people are “dangerous.” They “will cause medical harm for the sake of transient reductions in mild and asymptomatic infections,” he wrote.

This is not an anti-vax message. We at Wirepoints are not anti-vaxxers. Vaccines Save LivesThat’s the title of a recent column by Kuldorff. We agree with every word of it, but you have to read the whole thing to get the exceptions, which include children. COVID is not a subject on which there are simple black and white answers, and fanatics on both sides are not advancing the debate.

Finally, the rationale that vaccinating children helps protect more vulnerable adults is now gone. Even CDC Director Rochelle Walensky has said “what [vaccines] can’t do anymore is prevent infection.” That’s even more true now because the new Omicron variant breaks through vaccines so easily.

Even if it were true that vaccinating healthy children helps protect adults, would you ask them to take any risk or bear any sacrifice? Haven’t children have already suffered enough from the pandemic?

Between age, asthma and related respiratory issues, I am in a high risk group. But there is no way in hell I would ask any child to sacrifice in any way for my protection, and I hope every adult would say the same.

Let parents make decisions about vaccinating their children! It’s my child my choice! And you’re going to make me feel bad!? I’ve also had them vaccinated from measles- what a moronic thing to do! It’s not your business what a parent decides to do to protect their children! Who’s being the bully here?

There is no rational argument for mandating the vaccine for children, or anyone for that matter. With a 99.9% survival rate for those under 20, it makes no sense. For everyone else, why not let them decide? Most adults, especially the older ones will take it anyway. It doesn’t stop spread either. It just seems like a money grab. And the testing isn’t as robust as it should be either, especially the availability of at home tests. They should be plentiful and free, as should N95 masks for those who want to wear them.

A rational argument that the vaccinated are, in general, less likely to catch and spread covid. But this argument relies on bad facts because the vaccinated are just as likely (and the given the latest evidence with Omicron, even more likely) to catch covid as the unvaccinated. However, the people making these decision either don’t care, don’t believe the data, or are ill-informed as the latest science. Another rational argument is that the vaccine makes it less likely for those infected to have severe cases or death. However, as you said, the 99.9% survival rate means that vaccinating those 20… Read more »

In Europe mRNA not recommended for people <30, so jabbing kids is unconscionable

If COVID-19, Delta, and Omicron were so bad wouldn’t the Biden border would be tighter than the Trump border?

Perhaps the power brokers care more about placating the special interests behind illegal border crossers than the average American citizen.

I am amazed at the lack of understanding in the general populace concerning the covid vaccines. First off they do not prevent infection or transmission of the disease. They are not sterilizing vaccines. Second, the limited protection from severe illness lapses in mere months. Boosters will be required continually. Third, the risk of death or severe injury iss totally unacceptable. The true crime against the citizens of this country and the world is the refusal to provide early aggressive treatment for this disease. Hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved with early treatment. Treatment protocols were developed with… Read more »

I pray that people do more research on this topic. Informed consent has been abused. This mRNA therapy could be a massive gamble on your health. A roll out wrapped nicely in propaganda paper containing fear and conformist rhetoric and rules. Of course with very little actual science presented. Red flag!

Agreed. The push to vaxx up all kids is completely disgusting. There is no rational excuse for it.

Are we back to segregation? Blatant discrimination?

This is despicable, and the thought that our “representatives” are all-in with vaxxing 5-12 year-olds makes me sick. Every morning I wake and pray that someone will stop this crime against our children. I fear the damage that might be done to children who are the least likely to spread or be hurt by the virus.

Question, are they vaccinating there own kids

If the vaccine worked, which it doesn’t. Then I would believe that the world can vaccinate itself out of a pandemic. The fact that the vaccine provides neither immunity for the taker or contagion protection for others, proves it won’t end the pandemic, period. In fact it does the one thing that will spread the pandemic more, it makes it comfortable for people to interact having raging covid because it hides it, makes it feel like a cold. This is about nothing more than power and submission at this point. Getting the parents to submit their kids to these nazis… Read more »

If your child is injured from an mRNA experimental drug to protect them from a virus for which they are not at any risk, will Pritzker or Lightfoot pay your medical bills? No. Will you be able to sue the manufacturer for damages? No.

Here’s the real head scratcher, Mark regarding people like yourself who on the one-hand recognize the atrocity of pushing these poisons on kids while on the other hand advocating their ongoing experimentation even if only for “at-risk” populations. It’s your apparent complete disregard for how we got here in the first place. This entire debate on jabs is being waged on the playing field of those responsible for creating this worldwide chaos. What do I mean? The virus was man-made. In a lab. That’s a fact. The research was funded in part by US money and overseen by the same… Read more »

I see how someone could make a correlation between all of these facts and come to your conclusion. Given how much the establishment has lied about everything, it’s not out of the realm of possibility. However your theory assumes that these people are competent evil geniuses who colluded together and that seems unlikely to me. I think the more likely explanation, as usual, is a perfect storm of incompetence. The cabal of incompetent bureaucrats from Fauci to Ecohealth the goofball mad scientists at the Wuhan virus lab all just bungled this thing completely. Peter Daszak is a grifter and a… Read more »

Mostly agree, never impute evil intent when plain stupidity is the most likely cause. But I have this lingering doubt that stupidity and incompetence can coalesce spontaneously to the level of what we are experiencing…

Why didn’t the “great” 45th President bring all 9f the information we need out into the light, calm people down and lead? All he did was get up, everyday and talk shit. He screwed this up as much as the other governmental officials did. Had he demanded protecting the vulnerable, and used the DPA to make PPE widely available, and pushed for more testing that people could do at home, for free, he’d have won. The man is incapable of making a reasoned, fact based argument. He lost to Sleepy Joe for chrissakes! How do you lose to that moron?

Why do you keep talking about Trump? Do you have TDS? Why do you naively believe that Trump’s response to the coronavirus is what cost him the election? There is overwhelming evidence that a change in voting laws at the last minute, along with….ahem…outside help…helped Biden’s cause greatly.

I can steer you to many if you’d like but again, get off the devil’s playing field. Pro-vax/anti-vax is the debate (distraction) they want. This is not a debate about the merits of vaccinations. This is a plea to wake the hell up and see what’s being done to you and society as result of the deeds/lies/falsehoods coming from the halls of power in order to further enrich the already powerful and enslave the powerless. They are building your cage with your own help. Do not let them build your cage by opting-out of this needle madness. Other avenues for… Read more »

FF: How many at-risk folks (advanced age, obese, smokers, etc) have you convinced NOT to get the vax, with your lame reasons? My money says zero.
PS: Do you have any at-risk family members? Are they persuaded by you?

I’m here late, but I love LOVE your reply. So much I could comment on, but one point is that they make a claim (lie) by appealling to hope and/or fear, get their way, then they move the goal post and just keep repeating the process. Those who are dancing the dance are the ones that are taking us down a road we do not want to be on on the way to a way of life we do not want.

All agree that the vaccinated can get infected, and spread the virus. All agree that children have essentially zero risk of serious illness from Covid. So what possible benefit can vaccine mandates for children offer?

What level of moral depravity is required for politicians to use children as pawns in their quest for total control of society? As we have said before, progressivism seems to be a form of mental illness. That, not the virus, is the real danger to children.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
