IRS Issues Clarification on Rebates, Says Illinois Taxpayers Can File Returns – NBC5 (Chicago)

The IRS said in a press release that “in the interest of sound tax administration,” residents in most states, including Illinois, will not be required to report rebates on their federal tax returns, and that filing of those returns can continue.

The IRS was incredibly slow to clarify this issue. Maybe those 87,000 new employees that were included in the Inflation Reduction Act will improve their efficiency. Not.
