Just for the record, this anecdotal evidence seems similar and relevant: McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks made a similar convoluted spurious correlation between criticism of his self-serving political behavior and “anti-Semitism “. When Franks created 2 new public-benefits-entitled positions in violation of McHenry County written policy and ordinance, in order to hire 2 patronage workers as assistants ( performing no tasks of benefit to County near as any citizen can tell; FOIA requests for work product are answered with no details of actual work performed, just boilerplate 40 hour timecard assertions), he was criticized by taxpayers. Let’s see the tax returns and financial records for the union leadership. What are they hiding?

Kass will survive this and turn out to be a hero. Just like the Goya Foods owner who showed some spine and his business is doing even better. Just like Chic-Fila after chameleon Rahm Emmanuel’s speech from his high horse about family values. Go get em’ Mr. Kass.

I haven’t been able to find a copy of the Guild’s “open letter.” Anybody know a link?

Whoa! John Kass is now just noticing this? Where had he been, for the last 10 or 20 years? ?

If you’ve been reading his columns, you’d know John’s had his eye on the ball for years.

I am astounded to discover that there is a Writers Union. I can’t imagine a better way to ensure uniformly conforming and mindless newspeak. All bleating the exact same narrative like sheep. All safely confined within the same echo chamber. Not an original thought among the membership. Each ‘writer’ exactly like the next ‘writer’. Like writing robots or like a ‘news’ story computer program.

So in the interest of fair and full disclosure, will the Tribune ‘Guild’ make public where it’s union dues are used for political contributions?

I canceled my subscription immediately and I like to think hurting them in the pocketbook is a great idea. Bankruptcy is an excellent disinfectant (paraphrasing Justice Brandeis)

Kass is the only reason I keep my subscription. Once he’s gone, good bye Tribune!

My sentiments exactly. I have been a subscriber for 40 years, often wonder why I keep it up. John Kass is the reason. He is fighting for all of us.
