Juneteenth could soon become a state holiday in Illinois – FOX32 (Chicago)

Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford's push to make June 19 a paid day off for all state employees and a school holiday passed the senate executive committee and is scheduled to go to the senate floor for further debate.

June 19th to be a school holiday? What schools are in session on June 19th? Not many that I know of. Besides the unfortunate kids of Chicago have been mostly on a school holiday for a year thanks to the Chicago Teachers Union, and the high school kids probably won’t be going back any time soon.

Just odd that a northern state where black people have always been free make this a holiday.
