A bill awaiting Gov. Pritzker’s signature made headlines last month for renaming some “offenders” as “justice-impacted individuals.”
Though the impact was minor – the name change impacts only criminals in Illinois’ Adult Redeploy program, which places probation-eligible individuals in community corrections programs rather than in prison – it’s still a perfect example of how most of Illinois and Chicago’s leadership treats criminal justice. Criminals are treated as victims while the actual victims are ignored.
The renaming comes as violent crimes continue to rise as part of a six-year streak. Chicago has seen over 12,600 people victimized and traumatized by violent crime – homicides, sexual assaults, robberies and aggravated batteries – so far this year. That’s the highest number of victims in at least six years, as of May 31, and nearly 23% higher than in 2019.
Overall, the number of violent crimes reported in Chicago through May 26 are up about 3% over the same time last year. There have been 33 fewer murders, a drop of 15%, but nearly 250 more aggravated batteries, up 12%. Robberies, meanwhile, are keeping pace with the spike that began last year.
2024’s upswing in violent crime is even more noticeable when compared to the same period in pre-covid, pre-George Floyd 2019. Violent crimes are up 13%, with numbers up in every category except sexual assault.
Chicago would be a very different place if Illinois politicians worried less about what to call criminals and did more to make sure crime is actually stopped.

If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
Chicago gets what it votes for, and the situation seems to deteriorate with each election cycle. I moved to the suburbs to escape the chaos, and for a while, it was a successful strategy. However, now Springfield’s dominant political majority believes the entire state should embrace these liberal policies, extending their reach beyond Chicago and affecting even those who tried to avoid it.
“Justice-impacted individuals?” So, somehow these thugs are victims?
Welcome to Orwell’s 1984.
In Illinois, you are your own first responder. More people need to get their concealed carry permits. Then some of these criminals will be likely to be called “bullet-impacted individuals”. That will make a difference in the crime rates here.
Spot on Johnny. Don’t leave home without it or you could become an “injustice-impacted individual .”
Call them whatever you want if it makes you feel better. I prefer thugs, gangbangers and losers, but I’m a stickler for accuracy.
Exactly, or another one hoodboogers or sun teens
The crime numbers here are actually significantly higher, you can probably multiple them by 3, because crime isn’t being reported anymore in Chicago and the prosecutors are pleading down seriously felonies to misdemeanors. Hows your virtue signaling working out for you Chicago? You’re putting criminals above everything else where criminals wouldn’t hesitate for a second to kill you and do it again and they are the ones your prioritize, how stupid you democrats are, completely brainwashed LOL
I find it hilarious all the butthurt libtards dislike my comments that are pure fact, hilarious how stupid you people are. The politicians you vote for absolutely hate you and don’t care if you are killed by one of their wild animals and you still vote for them, absolutely hilarious. LOL
Everyone knows what the exact “problem” is. Just wait till people aren’t afraid to say the truth anymore, thats when change can finally happen.
How’s that gun control, and anti self defense working Chicago? Not!
Aug 4, 2019 Chicago: We have some of the strictest gun laws. Also Chicago: So many people are being shot.
But while everyone is paying attention to these mass shootings and the increasing debate over how to properly deal with them, Chicago’s crime rate is continuing to skyrocket when it comes to firearms. So far in 2019, more than 1,500 people have been reported shot in the Illinois city.

Gary, this is all being intentionally done. The politicians are purposely making it this way.
Do Crime Impacted individuals factor anywhere into the equation?
Never into the equation because the crime impacted individuals are usually white and the politicians are anti white racists who hate white people
Probably most of the victims voted for this, or didn’t bother to vote, so from my perspective, the system works. If you want sane enforcement of laws, avoid living or working in Dem ruled cities. If you live there, you are paying your taxes to the politicians putting you at risk.
Elections are completely rigged in Chicago and Illinois, so good luck ever getting a non psycho woke person in there
Rauner got in…..shock……but turned out he was to normal…….so we are back to the libtards way of thinking
Rauner turned out to be a tard too though, he went along with the libtard agenda
I’ll give Rauner the benefit of the doubt, trying to thread the needle narrowly as a Republican Governor of Blue state. There are and have been several, but Hogan (Maryland) and Sununu (NH) and Kemp (GA) come to mind. But the was unsuccessful because IL is too rigged Democrat, and the Democrats in this state cannot ever be appeased, no matter how far to the left you are. They are as committed to Progressive Ideology as the jihadist is committed to his future in heaven with Allah. Progressive ideology s a religion, and dirty, ugly, violent and degenerate religion, and… Read more »
Debtsor, I’d add Scott Walker (Wisconsin) to your list. He’s was a breath of fresh air compared to what they’ve got now.
