Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton says lawmakers will be forced to consider 20% tax hike if voters nix graduated tax amendment – Center Square

A 20% income tax increase would put the state’s income tax rate at 5.94%. This would also be the highest personal income tax rate in Illinois history. In 2011, lawmakers increased the income tax to 5% and allowed it to sunset before raising it again to 4.95% in 2017.

We recently had a tax hike now that Amazon et al now charges sales tax on online purchases. I would assume that those funds have been quickly squandered on assorted non-essential expenditures. How nice it would have been if those funds would have been applied to the State’s assorted unpaid bills.

Remember what I said about Plan B. They know what Plan B thru Z is but we don’t. If progressive does not pass there will be a slew of new or increased old tax’s but if it passes that does not guarantee no more tax’s.
How many reforms were offered if passed? None that I am aware of.
Impossible to get chronic Taxaholics Illinois politicians to a 12 step or whatever program.

“Lawmakers will be forced to consider 20% tax hike.” If the IL pols had any feeling whatsoever for the residents, it would read: “Lawmakers will be forced to consider salary, pension, and health care benefits cuts.” Once again, you could cut the pensions and health care benefits by half, and those retirees would still have better deals than most retirees in the country.

I would just like to know we’re Springfield and make a once a month appearance Stratton come up with these numbers. What hat were these numbers pulled out of this time, or are they drawing straws.

It’s amusing when they think the general public would be crushed if government workers were laid off. There would be cheers not anguish when their public worker privilege card is revoked.

You could cut 20% out of most State, Federal and municipal payrollers and nobody would even notice. Heck, things would probably run more smoothly as the unions lose less dues.

Certainly they could cut 20% without reducing services, but those are folks who have clout such that they wouldn’t be the ones cut.

There is one way and only one way to get rid of the idiocy in Illinois and that is to reject every Democratic Party candidate on the ballot–including the judges.

Ohhh, for the days when you could just pull the “B Lever”…

Hold on. I found an alternative. Remember how Stratton was first in line when the pot shops opened? Made national headlines. She bought Mindy’s Edibles Glazed Clementine Orange Gummies, which I see go for about $14 a pack. About half of that is tax. So, all we have to do is buy 571,428,571 per year of Mindy’s Edibles Glazed Clementine Orange Gummies. Problem solved! That’s only 45 packages per year per person.

Now that’s the Illinois Democrats I know and hate! Threatening voters with further punishment of their standard of living and wages, just to get their way sounds fully like a Machine job. None of that “government for the people by the people” nonsense here. Do as we say, or else. Hey Julianna, how about you tell your public unions “no,” instead of threatening hard-working business people and taxpayers? I have to think that the only people who are left voting Democrat in this state are trial lawyers, public union employees, pensioners and their families. And welfare recipients. Don’t forget about… Read more »

With the 18 year old voting age don’t forget a lot of the high school students who have never worked a day in their life but know all of the answers.

Hang on, I need to call my broker and invest some money in U-Haul stock. That threat will certainly incentivize businesses to relocate to Illinois. And given the states precarious fiscal position they’ll wind up raising them that much anyway if the blank check amendment passes.

Number of half-empty Chicago public schools doubles, yet lawmakers want to extend school closing moratorium – Wirepoints

A set of state lawmakers want to extend CPS’ current school closing moratorium to February 1, 2027 – the same year CPS is set to transition to a fully-elected school board. That means schools like Manley High School, with capacity for more than 1,000 students but enrollment of just 78, can’t be closed for anther three years. The school spends $45,000 per student, but just 2.4% of students read at grade level.
