Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
Headline typo: Should be “rein in CPD overtime spending” and not “reign in CPD overtime spending.” Looks like WTTW already corrected this.
Pretty simple. When your short 1000+ police officers then the OT pay of those who are employed increases to make up for the staffing shortfall. Just another BJ/CTU terrorists attempt to smear the police. Brandon Johnson is stupid, racist vermin. It is not possible to exaggerate just how bottomlessly dumb is Johnson and his CTU puppetmasters.
I think they are short closer to 2,500 officers, but hey mayor pinhead has 150 cops rushing him to the hospital for his panic attacks. Imagine for a moment that the majority of voters in Chicago are so brain dead that they believed this dope to be mayor material. That’s why Chicago is the way it is.
Stop relying on police for public safety. Who’s going to do that job then? “ Violence interrupters ( ex gang members )”? His aldermen that did away with SpotShotter? Social workers/ counselors armed with coloring books, lollipops and hugs? This guy needs to get a grip on reality.
Brandon, pick up the phone and call Iris Martinez, she might have some ideas on how you can reduce the need for overtime. You probably won’t like what she tells you because you’re pro criminal. Tim Evans has some ability to change it but he’s pro criminal too.
No, I think the reasons are that certain police officers are milking the overtime system for as much as they can, while they can. I’m sure they’re working, but they’re abusing the OT system on purpose, trying to squeeze as much as they can out of an obviously collapsing and dysfunctional system. Morale is low, crime is high, and like the movie says, “It’s Chinatown, do as little as possible.” While milking overtime for as much as you can.
Canceling days off, putting the entire department on 12 hour shifts for several days in a row multiple times a year is going to raise OT costs significantly and may account for much of the OT pay. The mayor along with most of the executives in CPD are not the brightest or the best.
Didn’t he put a task force in place to figure out this problem? Another Brando failure.
Like any good communist, he just loves to appoint committees, task forces, study groups etc. That people associated with the government comprise a large part of the employed in IL ( and under Biden ) comes as no surprise.
