More than 5,000 people previously convicted of certain violent crimes, gun crimes and sex crimes have been arrested for failure to register since 2017; A disproportionate number of those arrests, 98 percent, are people of color. But they were routinely turned away from the registry by the city because of police staffing shortages.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
If you’re waiting for Lori to solve an actual problem don’t hold your breath.
The fat man is helping them change their names, so who cares if they register?
Easy solution: move the registry to the district stations. The front desk personnel can easily handle it.
