Good thing the Illinois General Assembly isn’t controlled by Republicans. We’d be hearing nonstop how the white supremacists and klansmen in the GOP can’t accept a woman of color as mayor

It doesnt matter that shes a progressive lib, she going to get shafted just like rauner because shes not part of the pay-to-play machine. And completely nieve, just like the voters who voted for her. (And have to admit i held my nose and voted for her as less of two evil’s as ive had to so many times over the years)

Don’t beat yourself up about voting for her. The alternative was equally bad, which brings me to my main point. Illinois (and Chicago) has become a place of hopelessness. The choices for a non socialist, non liberal voter are almost always depressing. Even if a true conservative slips through the cracks and gets elected, they find themselves alone against against an army of liberal corruption, so what’s the point? Sometimes it’s better to realize when you’re beaten and just simply pick yourself up and walk away.

Imagine, if you will, a corporation in the private sector that is struggling against competition. It hasn’t turned a profit for several years. It’s future is in doubt as its customer base is declining. The employees, despite the company struggles, have been well compensated based on industry standards. Despite this, they vote to strike and walk out. If you were the CEO, would you; A) Give generous raises to the employees B) Close the business indefinitely until the workers return C) Make plans to sell/close the business D) Start replacing high salary employees with outside lower salary workers Any CEO… Read more »

CEO’s report to the Board. In this case Lori’s board is the voters. The voters would fire her if she chose option B. Option C isn’t even a real choice for schools. Option D would be next to impossible. Where are you going to find 25,000 teachers willing to work in that environment for less money? How long would it take? How patient would the board (voters) be during the transition? The problem is not Lori, Rahm, or the next Mayor. The problem is not the school board or the teachers. The problem is the voters. The voters don’t want… Read more »

It’s not the voters, it’s the Democrat party. Voters have no choice but to vote for the person with the D next to their name on the ballot. And the D party doesn’t offer austerity or reform.

So why not have a fiscal conservative with an “R” next to their name run? They could tell the voters that they will demand cuts in teacher salaries. Raise class room sizes and cut the number of teachers. Cuts in government services. They will outsource more services so as to have fewer government employees and hence fewer pensions.

Oh that’s right, that candidate couldn’t get elected because that’s not what the voters want… at least right now. Get mad at the Democrats all you want but the reality is they are giving the voters what they want.

You are correct that Chicago has chosen this government, and yes… the voters are the problem. The Republican party has given up on Chicago and I can’t blame them. Why spend resources on a lost cause? Chicagoans therefore have no real choices at election time, which I believe is debstor’s point. This is how Chicago works, and since that it well known, it’s on you (Chicago taxpayer) for choosing to live in this one party city. To an outsider like myself, it seems odd to always hear someone complain when it’s obvious that Chicago will always be a corrupt, liberal… Read more »

Chicago’s voters will never vote Republican, for a variety of reasons, the most poignant and recent being ‘Orange Man Bad’. In some precincts in Chicago, there wasn’t even a single vote for Trump in 2016. Not a single vote! The Democrat party doesn’t offer austerity, reform or spending cuts. It would be like the Republican party being pro-abortion and supporting planned parenthood! Ain’t never gonna happen. And even if a Republican did run for major office in Chicago on those issues – there is a zero, yes 0%, percentage of them winning, because people in Chicago don’t vote D. Ever.… Read more »

So you agree…the VOTERS are the problem. The politicians are merely giving them what they want.

mike Williams

Yes. The voters are the problem, but with only one party running in some elections, the voters are now screwed before they even vote. That’s because those same voters made the same bad choices over and over in the past. They sealed their fate…and perhaps yours if you stay.

I mean, you got a point, but it’s kind of like which came first – the chicken or the egg? Are Democrat voters the problem because they only vote Democrat, or is Democrat party at fault for not giving voters what they actually? Or is it both? who knows at this point.

I would like to interject my thoughts into this discussion. Those who chose to vote Democratic are most likely the RECIPIENTS of what the Dems offer. Union members and their families/those on state aid of any kind/subsidized housing/free medical are the bulk of the voters who choose “D”. They vote to keep what was offered and to get more not to cut anything or any reforms that would do the same. Why bite the hands that feeds you? There are at least 800K employed or retired union members plus family = at least 1.5M “D” voters now add in all… Read more »

You state this as if its news; its not! People tend to vote for reasons of self-interest above all else. That’s well established and has been for eons.

Your correct I totally agree with reasons of self interest but it seems the discussion should be how do we change this idea of self interest to that of what is best for the greater good. I hate to say this but the “D’s” work more as a family unit basically to protect their own at all costs and laws are made to support that. The “R’s” seems like everyone’s on their own. The Dems will put in whatever $$ it takes to win and throw $$ at the opposition (if any) to lose. The Dems are well organized and… Read more »

Yes but D’s run around wearing Pink Hats to ‘resist’ while R’s get stuff done at the ballot box or behind the scenes.

If Lightfoot eventually gets money from Springfield to help Chicago because of its mismanagement, the rest of IL loses. It’s a classic case of robbing Peter to pay Paul. Also, if Springfield caves, it’s saying that the Chicago resident is more important than the non-Chicagoan.

Well so far Lightfoot has quickly proven herself to be a non-reformer in Illinois and Chicago. She probably goes to bed at night wondering why she has not reformed anything. Well I’ll tell her why, its because she is cut from the very same cloth as the thing she is trying to reform. This makes her a “go along” instead of a reformer. She rolled over for CTU. Soon she will not roll over for the cops, those she will screw over, gotta stay woke, you know its not politically correct to take care of your cops. She goes to… Read more »

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
