Measure would eliminate standardized testing for young Illinois students – Center Square

House Bill 5285, also known as the Too Young to Test Act, would eliminate the development and funding of the testing, although school districts could choose to test on their own.

So, nobody other than the elementary school teacher will understand whether a student knows the alphabet or is able to read, add or subtract? Isn’t further promotion the exact wrong way to nurture a child who isn’t “getting it?” The trailhead for a path where no learning will occur and where failure and demoralization will become the rule from the third grade forward? A foundation of quicksand that will further obfuscate the failure of public education?

Or, am I just not “getting it?”

It eliminates standardized testing for K – 2nd Grade. Kids this young can barely read or understand standardized test questions to begin with so I’m not necessarily against it, and it’s less $$$ paid to woke testing making corporations like Pearson to indoctrinate our children in leftist values.

But for Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, the bill would not remove standardized testing for her daughter, who was in third grade when she allegedly pee’d her pants.

I agree – the sooner deficiencies can be identified the sooner they can be remediated.

“But state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, said children that age can get upset because they aren’t ready for standardized testing, including one of her own.
“My daughter came home from third grade and peed her pants and had the best scores in her class, but she was so nervous,” Scherer said.”

This didn’t happen.

Why would anyone believe that legislation for an entire state should be based on her daughter’s incontinence? These are the people who make the laws we must follow??

How embarrassing that a mother would expose her child to ridicule so she can push lousy legislation.

Boy, I wonder what Scherer would do to her mother to get her way?
