The announcement comes after relieving a total of $1.5 billion for people in Cook County. "There's no application, no paperwork and no tax consequences," Cook County Board President Tony Preckwinkle said. "Residents simply receive a letter in the mail informing them that their debt has been canceled."
We also would’ve accepted: “Taxpayers simply receive a letter in the mail informing them that their taxes have increased.”

Newton’s Law and Beakman’s Law both apply here. Nothing is canceled. Nothing is erased. Nothing is forgiven. These costs were simply transferred to Crook County taxpayers in exchange for loyalty and votes.

There are tons of details MISSING on how money was raised to pay for this and whether the taxpayer was screwed!

Any of this money going to suburban residents, or is it all going to Chicago residents and illegals?
This money is not going to any resident or person. It is going to collection agencies that have already written off the debt as uncollectable. So it is benefiting a for-profit business, not individuals.

This money was never going to be collected anyways. All they are doing is writing off a bad debt that should have been sold or written off long ago.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
