In Illinois, where state funding for higher education dropped by nearly 40 percent since 2000, public university tuition has increased 121% in the same time.
There are so many problems with college that this article touches on and ignores all at the same time. As some have mentioned below, it is not possible to pay for college out of pocket as it was in the past. Old Joe was one of those odd balls who worked his way thru college in the 1970s.
I love you old joe but being ‘old’ you have to get with the times. I had an old boss who used to brag he drove a school bus to pay for college. I told him that was decades ago and in today’s world that’s not possible. There are virtually no jobs a student today can work at to pay his or her way through a decent four year school. Back in the 70’s you could have. Now that pay, benefits, and pensions have increased greatly it is impossible to do in today’s world.
Yes, impossible if paying the sticker price. An example given was coming up with 10K per year after financial aid. Easily doable.
