To be located at last remaining building of the former Jane Addams Homes at 1322-24 W. Taylor St., Executive Director Lisa Yun Lee explained, “The Museum draws on the power of place and memory to preserve, promote and propel the right of all people to have a place where they can live and prosper—a place to call home. This mission is grounded in social justice and human rights, and we are tackling it with a multifaceted approach that encompasses culture, activism and entrepreneurship."
National Public Housing Museum. There are people who think this is a good idea. Those people are running our government, universities, and most other institutions. How did we get here?
How’d we get here? Gee look at who is next door, the University of Illinois. They bulldozed 1/2 of a hard working Italian immigrant community to build that god awful campus despite empty land all over Chicago. They dont value traditional, hard working, family oriented and strong people. They are raging commies and yes, they think disgusting CHA public housing is somehow an ideal to preserved as a museum. They are sick. I went to UIC and on a class tour of the mid century high rise housing that used to be just south of Roosevelt on an oval shaped… Read more »

I suppose if you’re gonna have a museum to public housing, put it on the toxic site that was once the Robert Taylor Homes.
I remember when they were demolishing Cabrini Green and you could see into the units. The cinder brick walls were often painted in primary colors (paints interior decorators typically reject) and that many times the cinder blocks were painted in some sort of pattern, the most common being a diamond.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.

Oops…Taylor Street, not Homes.
Can I assume that the stairwells are still going to be used as the bathrooms?
It’s not much of a museum if it doesn’t smell like the real thing.
For the full public housing experience
— no elevator is working
— graffiti covers every surface
— roaches and rats are everywhere
— plumbing and heat out of order
— random gunfire to keep you awake
A 4-D theater could replicate that quite easily. A violence interrupter simulation would be lit as well.
