As the death toll climbs, the nursing home industry is asking states for immunity from lawsuits for owners and employees of the nation's 15,600 facilities. In Illinois and Arizona, the governors signed executive orders that do not specifically list nursing homes but do immunize health care providers broadly. The Illinois order, for example, refers to "health-care facilities."
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
