"I hear the feeling of injustice," Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi addressed the crowd. "I think just about everyone here – including yours truly… we don't think the system's fair."

Illinois Hispanic, and other communities-of-color, have for decades allowed Democrats to buy their votes with “free stuff” they received because tax dollars that should have been used to fund constitutionally guaranteed public employee union pensions were diverted to pay for it. They were perfectly happy with that system until their ox started getting gored, and now they want a pass on their duty to make the disastrously underfunded public employee union pensions whole. As do many other reliably Democratic Illinois voters, who are suddenly upset that their Illinois taxes-n-fees are so much higher than almost every other state in the… Read more »

I am thinking of running for office in IL. My main focus will be to give each IL public union employee a $1B pension at age 55. I believe the public unions will support my candidacy with both cash and lots of campaign staff. I’m counting on your support!

Fire 1/3 of all city workers — especially useless community outreach ghost payrollers and others who add nothing to city quality of life — residents will see ZERO difference in term of city services, and property taxes can be trimmed
1/3? Ha – just about every office clerk in government can and will be replaced by AI. Keep the cops, firemen, streets and sans guys etc who perform actual work.

Why are these people complaining? This is exactly what they voted for. They are told Republicans are racist so they vote Dem, this is what you want. Stop complaining and pay your social justice tax or dump your house for a huge loss.
Dems are on a scorched earth destruction path in the name of social justice.
Yes, we, in the suburbs, want a cap on our taxes too!
WirePoints: Our CIG (corrupt; incompetent; and greedy) political class, in the face of less fed support and declining market values of pension assets and “work-from-home” with its declining downtown building property taxes, will surely seek surreptitious moves to have the suburbs increasingly subsidize the vote rich city of Chicago core.

Note that no one alleged Kaegi is doing anything wrong in terms of valuing properties. The people are just feeling the sting of Chicago’s onerous property tax regime. Kaegi concedes it is unfair, but what is fair? This is the regime people have voted for over many years. And future tax burdens will only increase. This is why the relevant question regarding pensions and debt is whether the system is sustainable.
If anything, these people have been underpaying their taxes for years as their properties were undervalued. Now they need to pay what they should have been paying all along and they are upset.

These Pilsen residents clearly don’t understand that they need to pay higher taxes to support public pensioners who make 40% more than the average working person. Once the contract is explained to them, I’m sure they will see that losing their homes to taxes is the only right and just thing to do.
I know, right? Don’t they understand, as recent immigrants to the country, that they are contractually obligated to pay for the cruises, pontoon boats and steak dinners of retired city of Chicago employees, many of whom now live in ….Punta…I mean Fort Meyers Shores?

Huge overly generous pensions cost a lot of money. Taxpayers are who pays for them. Luxury homes in Punta Gorda are going up because of the influx of money from Illinois.
If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.

Got soaked for years living in DuPage and Will County, WELL over and above what Cook County homeowners got. Finally we had to leave Illinois.
I have no sympathy. Pay up, suckas!
