Plan to beautify 50 vacant lots falls short nearly two years later – Chicago Sun-Times*

The program springs from the belief — backed by research — that beautifying vacant lots improves neighborhoods, creates jobs, and reduces gun violence and other crimes. READI (Rapid Employment and Development Initiative) recruited men to work the lots; Urban Growers trained them. The initial $250,000 budget covered training and landscaping supplies.

Columbia Univ issued a report that said beautifying vacant lots significantly reduced gun violence? This is an Ivy League school. These are the people who think they should be the sole arbiters of truth. Just another step in the descent into complete lunacy.
