I live in Plano (55, white, love it here). It is a diverse but small community. To suggest it represents something bigger is lazy journalism. I don’t think this article is particularly well-researched (source: Facebook ? Really?). It is a diverse community with a large Mexican population. The Mexican population increases, legally, in the spring and fall for planting/harvesting. Hinsdale nursery is one of the largest local land owners/renters employing a large Mexican population. In all my time here, I’ve never seen an advertisement for a Juneteenth festival/event, and I’ve eaten/ordered from the since-closed African restaurant. I am not suggesting… Read more »

The number of federal holidays hasn’t exceeded the number of workdays yet. For most of us, that’s a good thing.

Government commemorates young peoples’ return to slavery via a lifetime of student loan indebtedness, non-dischargeable in bankruptcy. Juneteenth celebrates America’s youth lifetime bondage to the G-man via the power of compound interest. American youth ye shall never be free.

You sign for a loan. You take the money. You pay it back.

That’s how it works. It’s known as ‘adulting’.

Completely agree RR. You borrow money, you pay it back. This is true for Illinois Government and their debt to bondholders and pensioners as well. They will be paid first.

Will American youth ever figure out to direct their anger over their situation at the people who put them there? The education system that sold them a bill of goods about the value of “investing” in a useless virtue signaling degree.

The “system” did not put them there. I am happy to debate/agree on the system, but it’s not the issue. It’s the parents. The lunatic adults that figured they could shield their children from reality- competition, failure, obstacles, struggles. Stop blaming government – large gov’t sucks no matter what party is in office. Blame the parents that failed to teach their children any life lessons.

I’m not blaming the government. I’m blaming the people who, not unlike Bernie Madoff, used a slick sales prospectus that painted a college degree, any degree, as the ticket to a secure future. The universities did that, with the help of secondary education.

I tend to agree. If the college has basket-weaving professors and staff employed, it’ll try to convince you that a basket-weaving degree is marketable and will result in your having a good job and career after graduating. I’ve seen this happen, and it’s shameful.

It’s a life’s lesson. You borrow you pay back. Nothing in life is free

Well, almost nothing. The do-nothing jobs in the public sector come pretty close.

This is what happens when every little faction of a supposed “ melting pot “ of a country gets a holiday sanctioned by pandering politicians and isn’t quite as grand as when it was originally foisted upon the general public. With the decline of tax dollars paid security, entertainment at the event and, subsequently, attendance come the cries of inequity, etc. There are better uses of tax dollars these days, and one’s time, than celebrating Mexican Independence Day , Cinco de Mayo, Porto Rican Day, Dominican Republic Day, etc. As Flag Day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day are slowly becoming… Read more »

Cinco de Mayo celebrates a victory over the French. Those p**sies. I think we can all get behind a celebration of vanquishing the French.

Also, it would help if your spelling and grammar were a bit better. It might mask your clear bias.

It was a small victory just one battle, that most of Mexico does not celebrate. It is really just a US holiday.

Plus the the French ending up kicking the merda out of Mexico.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
