Police Lounged, Napped In Congressman’s Office As Looters Destroyed Local Businesses, Video Shows – Block Club Chicago

Congressman Bobby Rush, whose office is at 65th Street and South Wentworth Avenue, said of the burglary to his office, "They even had the unmitigated gall to go and make coffee for themselves and some popcorn — my popcorn — in my microwave while looters were tearing apart businesses within their sight, within their reach...They were in a mode of relaxation and they did not care about what was happening to businesspeople, to this city. They didn’t care. They absolutely didn’t care.”

Why be surprised? The cops were on double time and are spiking their pensions.
They do not work for you, you work for them.
Protect your property? You must be out of your mind. Cops only want MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.
They will live in luxury homes in Florida while you SLAVES work to pay for their $100,000 per year pensions. Thank you morons of Illinois.

So a do-nothing rep is critical of potential doing less police? That’s rich. And Lori and Bobby claiming the police don’t care? Give me a break… You, LL, are the complete INCOMPETENT who closed the loop and, in essence, handed over the surrounding neighborhoods to the rioters… If there weren’t real people hurt by your decisions, this could make great humor. But, it’s not, and you and JB are derelict in your duties.

“My popcorn” he said. Who wants to bet it’s the taxpayers popcorn paid for as an office expense?

The update to this phony event has not made it to Wirepoints. Rush, the Black Panther congressman, spoke to Mayor Larry and requested a special police detail for his office. Larrym the mayor, then ordered police administration to assign 12 cops to Rush’s office. The whole story is a lie. A phony, pot stirring, lie. While there the officers had no opportunity to have a lunch break and were there for approx 12 hrs. Yes the cops made coffee, ys they made popcorn, yes the TV was watched but according to sources the officers covered the front and rear of… Read more »

Not surprised at all. I called this hoax yesterday. Lightfoot is trying to gaslight the media and citizens to deflect attention away from her meltdown she had on her illegally conducted city council meeting. Pure gaslighting. Don’t fall for it people – pay attention!

It’s not as much fake news as it was a set-up. This was a dirty trick to get the cops in trouble. It’s all politics and some innocent officers got caught in the web of deceit spun by Rush/Lightfoot who have no regard for the truth.

Also, why does the congress member’s office get special treatment? Shouldn’t his office be looted and burned like the shopping mall across the street?

The two cop haters Greg Pratt and Jeremy Gorner wrote the story on fellow cop hater Lori’s direction to vilify police because she wants licenses to fire any cop, preferably white, ay anytime. A clouted black cop shot an unarmed autistic kid, he got minimal punishment. But she wants two white cops fired for a slur and giving rioters the finger. She has to resign. The cops were there protecting the former panthers office.

In this environment the Police lose every time. Damned if they do…damn if they don’t. If they would have run outside and as he says “stopped the rioters”…sometimes what has to happen is ugly and “optically” unpleasing. So, let’s say they head out on the street and encounter rioters…try and stop them, apprehend them, fight with them, etc. The video and comment would be how racist they are and comments about brutality. Likely the Police were told to contain and not engage unless absolutely necessary…so they follow direction and still get into trouble. The liberal Pols in Illinois need to… Read more »

I was going to comment but you covered my exact thoughts. Lightfoot isn’t going to back the police no matter what they do, so I can understand the police hiding out somewhere and probably considering a career change.

If taxpayer dollars fund part or all of the lease and / or security cameras let’s see the entire video.

Good point. I believe rent is covered under the Members’ Representational Allowance (MRA). If so, we should be able to FOIA the lease agreement.

See this is what is wrong with Chicago politicians! Why are cops being blamed for what RIOTERS destroyed? Why don’t YOU Lightfoot point the finger at the rioters and looters the same way you do the cops? This is yet another hoax. I can guarantee you this was viewed as a resting spot for police as an interim break considering they had to WORK around the clock to suppress these riots. I would never be ashamed for police to hang out in my residence if fact we all should be allowing police a resting spot for while they are fighting… Read more »

They were there for over 5 hours. That’s a long break.

They were assigned to the office as a fixed post on orders from the mayor to police brass to protect the congressman’s office. Again, they were ordered there and told to stay there until told to leave.

What were they supposed to do?

I think that they should be cited for heroically standing by the peaceful BLM protesters.

Agreed. These cops should be commended for working around the clock to suppress the violence and riots. We should be proud to open up our establishments as a resting spot for law enforcement. Shame on this congressman and mayor.

A perfect metaphor for Bobby Rush’s long tenure in congress. He sat around, ate popcorn, and watched his district burn.
