With polls showing as few as 37% of Americans confident that our elections are open and honest, you wouldn’t think anybody would be bragging about integrity of the process. That’s especially true in Illinois, where the bungled vote count for Cook County State’s Attorney is rapidly getting even international attention.
But brag away is what Gov. JB Pritzker did. “Here in Illinois, our elections are protected,” he wrote on X (Twitter) last week. “We’re not scared of more of our people exercising their right to vote. That’s why we’ve expanded early voting, curbside voting, and made the vote-by-mail registry permanent to protect your fundamental right.”
The replies were savage — over 500 of them and counting, almost entirely negative.

Protected from what…? Is this a bad joke? You have @ToniPreckwinkle trying to steal an election in front of everyone for @ClaytonforCook…. Curbside or graveside…? Why is it so hard for me to show my ID at the voting booth…? Curbside cheating…I’d think that a valid form of identification would really help. It’s concerning that showing an ID is considered some sort of inequitable requirement that contributes to systematic racism & is some sort of violation of rights…You mean to make our elections impossible to audit and inherently unsecure…. Wow. This was sent in the literal middle of one of the biggest corrupt election theft jobs in crook county history…What about voter ID ? Stand up for real voting integrity. No, didn’t really think you would. Phoney…Stalin would be proud of you comrade…You made election stealing permanent. A national disgrace.

Vote-by-mail, curbside voting and lack of any required ID have indeed made the system untrustworthy. That race for Cook County State’s Attorney is the latest example, where a razor-thin margin still leaves the results from Tuesday’s election unknown. On Saturday, the Chicago Board of Elections announced that it had “found” 10,000 more mail-in ballots that it hadn’t counted. “The ‘counting’ will continue until the preferred result is achieved,” as a former Illinois state rep put it. That’s the risk of what could be happening. If the results aren’t as desired in a close election, take another roll of the dice by “finding” another batch of votes. It’s rather like what Michael Jordan said: “I’ve never lost a game. I just ran out of time.”
For sure, some agree with Pritzker that the process is clean. But even if they are right, nobody can deny that lost confidence in our election system is now widespread in both parties, and that perception, true or not, is itself a threat to the life of the very process in which they have faith.
Confidence of America in its elections is “notably one of the worst ratings across the world’s wealthiest democracies,” says the Gallup polling firm, which found lower ratings only in Chile and Mexico.
That must be fixed, and the ways to restore both the perception and reality of honest elections are simple: Photo IDs, paper ballots, in-person voting except in very special circumstances and a prompt vote count that’s finalized on election day.

Someone please explain to me what mail in ballots vs drop box ballots mean? To me mail in ballots mean exactly that. Mail the ballots in by the U.S. Postal system which is then postmarked as to when they received them. Drop box locations should be considered mail during election times and postmarked. Without a postmark no one knows when they were sent.
Also do the ballots have sequential numbers on them or are they just copies? As for the military mail in ballots they should be color coated green so they can distinguish them from the other ballots.

Leave it to Pritzker to praise all of the bad ideas, and the incompetence or lack of preparedness in dealing with them. True to form, we are assured the governor and his fellow democrats will protect us from the republicans, bogeyman, whoever, and whatever else they want us to fear, etc..
If they were to stop misrepresenting and repeatedly reinforcing the misconceptions, it would be easy to see that voters are allowed to vote when they have to vote in person, show their ID, and when limited reasons for accommodating an absentee ballot are available upon request.

One of the tv news outlets (i can’t remember which one) is saying the nursing home votes still need to be counted in cc states attorney race!
Illinois is one of a number of states where you can request ballot within 1 week of Election Day. About the same number of states say you must request ballot 1 week or more before Election Day.
I say we go with the second option.

This is why we need to vote with the mail-in ballot AND in a few weeks vote again at the poll. It works, believe me, we did it in 2020, our mail-in vote must have been trashed because the poll worker let us vote in person. If the poll worker says you’re not eligible to vote this election, then tell them to prove it. Show me the ballot you say I already casted. The only way this crap gets fixed is if people take every advantage and challenge every system editing rule to prove that the software is totally hosed.
What we need is vote in person only and purple thumb like in the more electorally advanced third world.
Having unattended drop boxes is crazy. For example, there was an unattended drop box at Wrigley Field. People should be required to take their “mail-in” ballot to a polling place and get it scanned if they don’t mail it.
Apparently, that was only on election day. UC and Wintrust Arena had them too. But Wrigley is less than a mile away from a library drop box. How is Wrigley Field on only election day more convenient for voters?

I would add a requirement for all mail-in ballots to be received by the close of the polls. All voting stops when the polls close. That’s the only way to have a “vote count that’s finalized on election day”.

What prompts someone to request a mail-in ballot, hold onto said mail-in ballot for weeks until election day, then drop said ballot in the mail right before the buzzer? At that point, it’s just as easy to stroll over to your local polling place and cast your ballot. The cutoff for mail-in ballots should be one week prior to election day. Consider this, mail carriers, members of a large nationwide union strongly supportive of Democratic policy positions deliver and then return mail in ballots – supposedly. They’ve been known to steal cash from children’s birthday cards and throw mail into forest preserves and under porches and they know when someone re- locates. So should you put it past them to cheat in an election by holding back or even voting mail in ballots? Add to that, many of these carriers in Cook County attended CPS so they can’t read or do much else.
Throw away a bag of ballots or throw your toilets on the front lawn you make the call. USPS = Gov. Pritzker’s kind of people!
They were part of the Big Steal. No doubt some willingly for some small envelopes and some unwittingly because they needed stacks and stacks of mail in and absentee ballots to make the swing state steal work like a well orchestrated coup which it most certainly was. Here are the locations for VBM Ballot Drop Box Locations in Cook County. Pretty much all village halls, public libraries, or court houses. The location in Oak Park was the same place I early voted. No wait whatsoever. I was in-and-out in no time. But my trip to the polling place was no different than the VBM drop box user.

They make it easier to commit election fraud because they are committing election fraud. It’s really that simple. Elections are supposed to be safe and secure, yet in Democrat states, ballots are floating around everywhere to be dropped off in boxes all over the city and mail in ballots are counted up to two weeks after the election. I know for fact that the election system in Illinois is at best broken, at worst outright corrupt. In 2020 we were mailed ballots we didn’t ask for. We thought, ok let’s vote this way. So we did for Trump.
