One of the Co-conspirators talked, i.e. ComEd and is paying a whopping $200M to stay out of jail and continue to cooperate over the next 3 years. Not sure what may happen, but it would not surprise me if this DOJ/ IRS action ends up bigger than ‘Family Secrets’ in terms of lasting impact.

Since Comed simply bases its rates charged to citizens based upon costs of operations isn’t it the citizens who are actually paying the mentioned funds?

The Federal Prosecutor said ComEd is barred from passing through the fine to customers or taking a tax deduction. The $200M is right off the bottom line.

The deferred prosecution agreement refers to two state laws related to ComEd.

Public Act 97-0616 passed in 2011, which was the Energy Infrastructure and Modernization Act (EIMA).

Public Act 99-0906 passed in 2016, which was the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA).

During that time Pat Quinn was Governor, John Cullerton was Senate President and Michael Madigan was House Speaker.

All three are Democrats.

Yes, but I’ll go further.

They are all politicians, and they all seek power.

Just read the government docs. Madigan is absolutely toast. Shortly, his new address will be the cross-bar hotel.

He’s corrupt scum and we’ve known about it for his entire career. I’m glad to witness his downfall.

I’m also not delusional to think this will end corruption in Illinois politics. Both local parties are crooks.

The FBI just handed Madigan his hat and coat. His death grip on the Illinois legislature is over. When the FBI steps in politicians quietly retire just like Madigan’s mentor Richie ‘I gotta land deal’ Daley

According to WTTW they said that Madigan does not even have a cell phone. Illinois law prohibits recording any conversation unless both parties agree and he probably does not use a computer or tablet which could implicate him on something. Question? How can anyone so powerful still not use any modern technology and run a state with so many problems unless he has something to hide? Seems like deals he makes are with a nod or wink which may not hold up in court. He could say he has a twitch. He has a lot of bases covered and unless… Read more »

Maybe Illinois will have a chance – Madigan, Pritzker, and some of the underlings gone. We can only hope.

It’s going to be a battle like we’ve never seen before in Springfield in the end I think there will be a lot of dissension between both parties. Will seniority among lawmakers prevail, or will the younger politicians pull for themselves.

Nailed it, Mark. This is the more progressive elements making their power play.

Ya’ll remember Rahm Emmanuel came outta left field, questionable residency- the fix was in and won… Well, there’s little Jay’s big sister Penny Pritzker. Undoubtedly seats vacated, election year and a whole lot of prime commercial Chi-land to divide and conquer for the little brother and big sister duo

More of the same with only the faces changing is my take on it all; after all Illinois voters and non voters demand it.

I’d imagine that Madigan’s strategy will be stall and hope that Biden wins the election and installs a D-leaning US Attorney.

Guys of both parties who like to play ball have nominated tame US attorneys here. Tame US attorneys have been a necessity to the Combine. Then after their term of public service is over, the tame ones find lucrative positions in the Chicago legal community. The only wild US attorney we have had in the last 30 years was Fitzgerald and he put away Ryan and Blago. Before him, some Republicans prosecuted Democrats and Democrats prosecuted Republicans but nobody prosecuted anyone who was a made man in the Combine. Trump is a wild card and has no friends here he… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
