Report: 2M Illinoisans face $500 cut as Social Security faces cliff – Center Square

U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth co-signed a letter to President Donald Trump this week that criticized his administration’s handling of Social Security, such as policies in HR1, or the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a tax and spending package.

Nice time to care about SS – DUCK, Maybe DICK can help you. This is the same problem that has existed with every administration since Johnson. No one fixes it…they just steal from it. But now…The DUCK is going to write a sternly worded letter to…President Trump (as if it is his fault) and demand that he fix the problem. She has been in office for 13 – 14 years…never done anything about this or anything else. Total BS and simply a press release. She has no interest in solving problem…she just needs to “keep the plates spinning” till she… Read more »

Duckworth is useless. She does nothing to earn her salary or benefits.

Social Security is the only legal Ponzi Scheme in America. That it is running out of money should surprise no one, least of all a doltish political animal like Duckworthless. Duckworthless is still mad that anyone dared to cut taxes for working people. This is something that leftists simply cannot abide, as they think your money is their money. Duckworthless conflates the OBBBA with the SSA Trust fund that she and her fellow political animals have heavily stolen from over decades leaving a pile of IOUs where a pile of cash should be. Duckworthless even decries means testing benefits. Do… Read more »

“Do retirees with six figure RMDs and/or pensions really need SSA income? Yes. I know. They paid into it. But they aren’t relying on it … Means testing makes sense.” Railroader, I’ve agreed with the vast majority of your comments over time. But I disagree wholeheartedly with the quoted part of your comment. Let’s take two couples in retirement. Both couples had identical income streams throughout their working careers. Pre-retirement, couple “A” led the good life; buying high-end cars, going on luxurious vacations, eating at expensive restaurants, etc. Couple “B” lived more frugally. As a result, couple “B” has twice… Read more »

SS needs to gradually be raised to life expectancy AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED.
New employees (i.e, 18-21 year olds) should be allowed to sign onto a my 7% goes into my 401 and I don’t get SS until I’ve reached life expectancy because I’ve planned accordingly with my funds available and should be dead. SS isn’s supposed to be a retirement plan.

SSA income was supposed to be supplemental income for widows. It was never intended to be a substitute for retirement savings and investments or pensions. The claiming ages are also quite wrong. Back when SSA was started, 65 was at the far end of life expectancy. People routinely live to 80+ now, thanks to advances in medicine and most people not smoking cigarettes.

Did Tammy write a letter to all the presidents that preceded Trump?

The retirement age for Social Security should also be the maximum age to serve as a Congressman.
