Schools that let students leave class to protest ICE have failing academic records – FOX News

Roosevelt High School in Chicago recently staged a walkout during school hours; students joined those from several other high schools in Lincoln Square, calling for ICE to leave Chicago and other cities. At Roosevelt High School, 22.7 percent of students are proficient in English. Only 7 percent are proficient in math — four times less than the state average at 38.4 percent.

If history was taught properly in our schools, these children would learn all about 9/11/2001 and its ramifications. They will come away understanding ICE is here to protect. Remember, Americans were killed from within our country. The killers lived among us!

Leaving Soon, just not soon enough

Either way they have failing academic grades. One has nothing to do with the other. Teachers are there to be babysitters not educators.

Isn’t Illinois Fun?

The kids are getting AP courses in Resentment, Jealousy, Oppression rather than the three R’s, STEM and Entreprenership. Greatest country in the world for opportunity for anyone willing to take the initiative and work. Success also takes some luck, trial and error and fighting through difficulties. We are not all equally smart, skilled or driven, but if we make the most of what we have and choose to pursue, we can get to better places. That was the mindset that made this country great and will keep it great. These far leftists are detractors heading us down the wrong path… Read more »

Surely the kids that have English as their second language are more terrified than anyone. Of course they are protesting…they understand what is at stake more than anyone. Where is the humanity?

Humanity – well, it’s not all feelings…there are practical parts to humanity too. No one ever taught these kids or their parents that being an immigrant (legal or not) into a different country requires assimilation into the culture and society. Being here legally and learning the language is a big deal. Some People complain about the length of time and effort it takes to become a legal US Citizen…ever think that might be by design, to make sure the person really wants to become a US Citizen, their commitment to the Country is sound, they take the time and effort… Read more »

Our humanity is informed by the understanding that the U.S. cannot support unlimited mass migration. Chasing that ridiculous fantasy is not humane. It is dangerously delusional.

These “students” will soon be voters and aren’t likely to leave Illinois.

A few years from now, the teacher unions will be moaning that they can’t possibly be expected to teach all these students from different backgrounds with limited language skills. Oh, and pay them more. That will fix the problem.
