Secession From Illinois Is in the Air – Wirepoints cited in the Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board cited Wirepoints’ analysis of Illinois’ massive pension debts as part of their piece detailing the growing secession movement in downstate counties and Indiana’s offer to absorb those counties. As the Board says: “when he runs for President in 2028, perhaps Gov. Pritzker can explain to voters why so many of his citizens want to flee his brand of tax-and-spend governance.”

“Healthcare for people when they’re in need?” He means healthcare for people with no accountability. From the viewpoint of an ICU nurse in Illinois, the majority of our patients are not motor vehicle accidents or heart attacks, they’re GSWs, alcohol withdrawal, drug overdose, non-compliant DKA, etc. The vast majority of these patients pay NOTHING. They are Medicaid. Made possible by the ACA. Tax payers pay for every dime of their care. I have patients (frequent fliers) that run up MILLIONS in medical bills every year. Would love to form a separate state– but not with any other state.

But I need a solid explanation of how this would be implemented (throwing out that certain elites and the DEMS would not want to anyway).

Again specifics. And as collar counties become more and more non-White and more DEM- well that issue would have to be examined or we could be in the same mess as we now are.

Fully support this secession movement! We are tired of not being represented and having our first amendment and second amendment rights stripped from us on a daily basis ..JB has a zero chance of ever being president is the worst governor ever

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
