Much of the routine trade and investment between China and America is entirely appropriate and in America’s interest. But inserting the Chinese Communist Party into America’s pay-to-play system and its economic development strategy isn’t just crossing a line. It’s a leap into an abyss of stupidity.
It’s not like grocery stores and pharmacies haven’t tried to open stores in these areas. They try, and a year or two later they fold because of shoplifting and safety issues.
A little culture comparison: I am in Poland and was watching kids arrive at the school across the street from my hotel. They just ride up on their scooters and bikes and park them by the door. No locks.
I saw large bicycle parking lots in Japan with out bike locks!
And the Alderman complained about the closure. Lets see him try to sell it to some rich black entrepreneurs to open it up again and see how that works out
PROVES Walgreens was CORRECT . It’s a business not a charity or food pantry.
Sell it to the City and let them try….
It would be a huge success (as long as it’s heavily subsidized by the residential Chicago taxpayers).
I think one commenter on a similar story said something like you could have two lines after you select your goods: one line to pay and the other to walk out of the store without paying. At least that would eliminate that undesirable cost of paying security guards.
