The Social Media Amusement Tax is imposed on “social media businesses that collect consumer data from more than 100,000 Chicago consumers in a calendar year.” The rate of the tax is $0.50 per the number of Chicago consumers in excess of 100,000, calculated on a monthly basis.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
