Ninety percent of food banks across Illinois are reporting increased demand for food. At Willow Creek Care Center, Schumacher said they have had a 54% increase in the number of people who are coming to them for food this year as compared to last year. At the same time, the cost of food has quadrupled.

Why are pantries needed with the food stamps, free school meals and assorted other giveaways?
Put up the ‘FREE’ sign and watch the lines form.
Some food pantries are designed like grocery stores – without the check out lanes. What’s not to love?
Though there are people who need a little extra because they either don’t qualify or don’t want to apply for food stamps, I doubt they are the ones inundating the pantries.
Some are just naturally attracted to “free”. Same as we see every holiday season, with the free turkey/food giveaways on the South and West sides – you see many fat well – dressed peeps in luxury vehicles lining up, they can well afford to buy their food. Generally speaking, the “poor” in this country eat like kings compared to the rest of the world, we have no real “hunger” problem. Only exception may be poor elders on a low fixed income. Most poor people are fat. They have little free cash for activities so their just eat instead. And they eat junk too. Most fat people I know barely know how to cook. They’re eating a frozen pizza or a bag of chips and a 2L of soda and calling it lunch.
