Some call new commission to explore Illinois’ property tax system a waste of time – Center Square

State Rep. Tom Weber was on the property tax relief task force in 2019 and isn’t optimistic about what will come from another study. "We don’t have property taxpayers involved and this is going to be another waste of time,” said Weber.

Most property taxes are the local schools that pay teachers and administrators outrageous salaries and have the fanciest, newest buildings. Leftists – actual avowed leftists – run most school boards and they spare no expense. And when it comes to bond referendums, the voters approve them every time. One guy I know, a staunch conservative too, voted for all of my district’s bond referendums, believing that ‘good schools’ are what keep our property taxes high. There needs to be a study to determine the viability of a commission and who will comprise such and what their focus, responsibilities and scope of power will be, along with the cost of the commission. The commission will then conclude their findings, and another commission will then be appointed to evaluate the conclusions reached by the first commission. Yeah, another joke task force that has an unachievable goal and no responsibility to make anything happen. Zero chance anything meaningful results from this effort.

Any recommendations for PT relief would probably apply only to lower-income residents. If not, any relief the rest of us would realize would be more than offset by higher fees and taxes somewhere else. Remember, you’re living in Illinois. The Mismanagement Machine has an ever-growing appetite for taxpayer money.
