Spending is up, student outcomes are down, property taxes are up, home values are down. Illinois’ education system is upside down. – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about the recent uncovered video featuring Chicago mayoral candidate Brandon Johnson. Johnson discussed the tactics he used to undermine achievement as a way of “rebelling against the structure.” They also discuss the results of Wirepoints’ new Report Cards on Illinois’ 20 largest school districts.

Could we rephrase the data about the percent of black students able to read or do math at their grade level?
Instead of “10% are able” could we simply report “90% have not been taught to read at their grade level”?
I think that clarifies where the real performance problem is.

Thanks for continuing to expose these frauds!

Illinois teachers have some of the best benefits and worker protections in the country. Your article is full of buasss inaccurate statements. The place where there’s the worse shortage of teachers are red stares where the pay and protections are terrible and they arrest you if you teach science and history.

“. . . and they arrest you if you teach science and history.“

You mean CRT and the 1619 Project? Your arrest accusation is conflated rhetoric, but a good firing followed by a barista job at the local coffee shop might scare those bad teachers straight.

No (little) money for nothing except fabulous public sector compensation and especially those fabulous and abused public sector Tier 1 pensions-medical. Ms Precwinkle and your political colleagues: why are there so many broken promises in Illinois? Including to our school children? Why is Illinois 51st in fiscal condition behind Puerto Rico? Why do we have the top, or close to the top, overall tax burden in the country? Why is Illinois rated like #1-3 in political corruption? Why do part time legislators work as property tax attorneys? Why do we have an unfunded public pension -medical obligation estimated by some… Read more »

My guess would be that Commissar Brandon Johnson is still qualifying for a CTPF pension while on leave from the classroom and a pension from the Cook County Pension fund at the same time. Being elected Mayor will complete the trifecta.

Got that right. Final step: retire to like Palm Springs at like age 54 and live out his next four decades. A probable monthly highlight in retirement: booting up the computer each month to make sure that the deposit from Il taxpayers, properly indexed to inflation or higher, took place, and on time.

Not even two teaching pensions could afford Palm Springs CA where their mindless liberal ideas would go unnoticed. Most of the teachers I knew retired to Willow Springs, Western Springs or other conservative suburbs where their, “I know what is best for you,” attitudes can have maximum damaging effect!

Downstate teachers flee at higher rates than suburban teachers.

Probably fleeing those low wages that downstate teachers earn.

That makes no sense. They are leaving after they’ve already taken their pensions. They move to TN, IN and MO. Just as Chicagoans flee to punta gorda, there are lake communities in TN overflowing with retired central and southern IL teachers. They live very nice lives in low cost of living states.

Taxes are going to keep going up, doubling every 5 years. Home values will have the equity taxed out of them. Student spending is controlled by the CTU and they are not interested in education. The Ponzi Pension Time Bomb is exploding and will keep growing like a cancer. Pensions will eat up the budget more and more each year. Illinois is on a path of destruction, and it is almost impossible to stop now. Best of luck for those that chose to stay.

Dan summed the whole thing up so well when he said “you’re destroying hope.” Prospective employers are looking at this, shaking their heads, and bypassing IL entirely.

I don’t like it, but really there is no state in my opinion more out of control than IL. Yes, we have all sorts of “midwest nice” and high quality citizens, but the state and city of Chicago mismanagement and political corruption is so profound. Have to be honest, to have even a decent shot at fixing things.

Once again folks, don’t confuse a Dem Party jobs program with education.

A statewide concern: Illinois’ population decline outpaces neighboring states – Wirepoints on ABC20 Champaign

“We are not in good shape” Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski told ABC 20 Champaign during a segment on Illinois’ latest population losses. Illinois was one of just three states to shrink in the 2010-2020 period and has lost another 300,000 people since then. Ted says things need to change. “It’s too expensive to live here, there aren’t enough good jobs and nobody trusts the government anymore. There’s just other places to go where you can be more satisfied.”
