Springfield businesses feel the pinch of state worker shortage – State Journal-Register (Springfield)

According to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, there were approximately 7,000 vacant state positions at the beginning of the year — seen especially in state veterans homes, prisons, psychiatric hospitals and the Department of Children and Family Services.

It sounds like Illinois (like other employers) will need to sweeten the pot and offer better pay and benefits. Pay them more and move them from tier II to tier I. If not, the state will need to offer even more upfront pay to entice people. Either way, the cost of public labor will need to rise.

A job that’s been unfilled for months, or years, that no one will take, is the very definition of waste and bloat.

Definition of most politicians jobs is waste and bloat and raising taxes. Never ever a spending problem only revenue.

Lol no one wants to live in Springfield a Tier II pension is nowhere near the enticement needed to attract employees. This state is in worse shape that I thought.
